RE: H-9 Cap 232 1/3 Scale...Liited Edition.
I am finished 21.5 lbs less fuel.
Final set up
DA-85
Vess 26A
Ailerons 2-5955
Elevators 2-8411
Rudder 1-5955
Throttle 1-Hitec 475
Choke 1-531
Carbon Fiber Wing Tube
Carbon Fiber Landing Gear
Carbon Fiber Spinner 4"
32 oz gas tank to swap out to a 24 oz tank
No major Mods I just put this newer release one together. I did try to use as little wood as possible to mount any new items. New wood was added for the gas tank, throttle and choke servo. Wood was added so that I could use a nylon botl and blind nut on the wings. Receiver and Reg were mounted using wood already in the plane.
I am at 7†on the inboard root of the wings. I did not use the outer wing tip method to balance. At this CG I require just a hint to fly level inverted. My trim set on the radio has been set up 1 on all things except throttle. The maiden required 10 clicks of down on the elevator and nothing on the ailerons. I am requiring more right thrust. I did not have the correct gear to take care of this at the field. I will also require a mix for down lines as they pull out slightly. I did take care of a rudder to elevator mix of -3 on both left to right and right to left. I expected more like a -5 to a -7 for the way the Cap stab sits. I have also read were Caps owners are requiring a mix as the plane would roll very badly in knife edge. I am not sure if the newer Cap has some redesign issues; however, mine is flying more like an Yak in the fact its flying very true or close to it knife edge. I also am only running one 5955 on the inboard hole on both wings and full throttle present no issues with this set-up. I am also running one 5955 on the rudder and this also is working great with easy recovering in knife edge. I have never flown a Cap that was not strong on its side to me that is an Edge flaw. I have had 3 Caps, Sig, GP, this is my 4th Cap and it’s hard to believe this baby flies so great. The DA-85 has the power to move this thing like there is not tomorrow with less than a gallon on the motor. I am getting 6550 on a 26A Vess upon landing so that is my hot RPM. If you do go full throttle the plane quickly becomes a spec in the sky. I did not do any blender, walls, harriers, elevators and T-Rolls. I have to get the things I want flying to my style 1st then I explore that side of the house. I will not be moving my CG as I like it a lot at this spot. I will do the following:
Add a throttle to elevator mix for the last click of throttle.
Add more Right thrust
Correct the cowl to spinner alignment once the R-Thrust is to my liking
This Cap can jump right in there and fly IMAC if you ask me. I am very pleased to have another bird in my Hanger that I will enjoy fling. That’s more of the goal this year is to only have those birds in the hanger that you would/want to fly. This is my first experience with a DA motor of my own and it’s doing well for me on the 1st gallon. The Cap is only 21.5 lbs so weight is really not an issue with this set up. Weight was saved by only using one servo per wing, adding carbon fiber for the spinner, wing tube and landing gear. There was not any snappy behavior out of this Cap or any of the other Caps I have owned. I fly with 10 degrees on all of my bird’s low rates and 20-25 on my ailerons and rudder low rates. I usually use 35-45 on the ailerons, elevator, and rudder 3d rates. I am running a throttle curve on this bird along with having number of 130 and 124 on my throttle travel. I only have three landing on the Cap and its landing very very slow; however, I am coming in so slow that I am making corrections until my wheel touch down. It’s not the bouchee landing just so slow and figuring out the few clicks deal needed to let it settling on in for a landing is what I am learning on this bird right now. Well anyway the maiden went well now it's time for the weather to cool off and let me spend time with the birds (gassers) that I have and just get into a groove with them.
I am def. feeling this Cap. The DA is sure making me come to terms with DA power. This Cap is so light it's so funny to see how fast I can go straight up. I must say i am getting hooked on that part. I did a rolling elevator/harrier with the bird today, this is the 1st 3d thing i have really did besides do a 2-4 sec. hover to see how easy it holds. The motor is so smooth the plane sits so still at idle.

The below was some comments I made when I first put this kit together a few months ago. Hit me up on any newer info I can provide oh 3d-outstanding inverted or up side harriers , stong blenders and flat spins. Waterfalls are tight power wiht a DA 85 is so sweet.......

..krayzc-RCU,
Many thanks for the great info and photo's.. Ordered one today..We have a new ZDZ 80RV-J to go in ours but may do dual servos on ailerons..Was thinking of using standoffs rather than building a motor box but we will see.
Will keep you informed.

RE: H-9 Cap 232 1/3 Scale...Liited Edition.
i did the testing on the one and its working very well i did think i would need to move the servo over more but i have did 2 full speed passes to see if I was still going to have a plane (r lose it to flutter). well it worked and i never plan to do that anymore as that is a very fast motor and plane combo. just hit me up if i can be of more help as i like when i have questions and flyers come to the resucue quickly....

...One of the first questions that springs to mind is where did you get the Carbon U/C from...?....do you know what the weight difference is ...?

http://troybuiltmodels.com/Spinners.htm
http://troybuiltmodels.com/WingTubes.htm
http://www.graphtechrc.com/Secure/mall/maingear.asp
having to pull this from memory
landing gear saved 6-8 oz
wing tube saved 3 oz
did not have a spinner to compare to but tru turn says thier spinner is about 5.7 oz
http://www.truturn.com/cgi-bin/store...ers200&maxp=30
I expeted to come in at 24 lbs as this is what i read from subtract from those who did da and 3w on this bird. There are huge threads on RCU as it was a popular kit about 3-4 years ago. if you want to read up on them use keyword 33% cap or 33% Hanger 9 Cap is how i found it. How soon r u looking to have this bird?

RE: H-9 Cap 232 1/3 Scale...Liited Edition.
Could someone measure the Cowl for me please? I am scratch building a Jack Strickland Laser and it could take a Cap 232 cowl. I have seen one built with a Great Planes Cap 580 Cowl and it looks right. I wanted to see if the Hanger 9 Cowl was the same size as the Great Planes Cap Cowl.
Thanks
Tony

RE: H-9 Cap 232 1/3 Scale...Liited Edition.
Just started to go round some issiues on this big thing...one that will need attention is the re-fabrication of a new front eng mount/firewall...the one supplied is drilled for a Zenoha or something ...does anyone have a link or the dimentions for the mounting bolt spacing at the rear of the ZDZ 80RV-J..?
Thanks
David.

...i would rec to hold off til u have the motor in hand.

I do like the idea of the Carbon plate...that method may help with a couple of issiues..i could cut the origonal motor box back to allow some long DA standoffs to be usd...then i wouldnt have to cut the firwall to clear the carb...Hmmmmm...
