It looks like some Hong Kong company is bootlegging a Piccolo. It's not EXACTLY the same. As far as I can tell it's pretty much the same parts with some slight shape modifications here and there.

By the way did you say you payed $280 thats AUS ist it? Are you in Australia? I know I am!
"edg" how many servos does the piccolo use for controll again?? This one only uses 1for pitch cyclic and another for lef\right cyclic also has a gyro like the piccolo.
How much does the piccolo go for? I can get one with servos gyro picco board for $500AUS or $250US if you live in USA. Is that a good price?
Thanks guys

Hehe
Yeah that site is just what we needed
I'll write you when I receive it, BTW I'm in the States MIAMI FL , the sunny state?? The company is fom Hong Kong. The payment was though Paypal and the eCheck just cleared today so the Heli should arrive one week from now (they ship when they get the money) I'm a real newbie on this this is my first incursion on RC Air modeling and that heli was the cheapest thing I found. People say the heli it's a replica of a piccolo and that's pretty darn good, that way I got a good value on it (spare parts are available from piccolo dealers) that was one of the principal points when looking for a heli (spare parts, crashes are going to be numerous ) I'm thinking to modify the heli with a new set of batteries (Li-ION Kokam's) so I can get longer flight times.

Piccolo
The point is that piccolo helis are common, and this heli is everything but the contrary. Do a search on google, or better on this forum and you will find a wealth of information about it try the Electric RC Helis forum.

Two Models
Almost forget to tell you that they have two models; one is for sale at 150$ US and the other is fo 280$ US, when doing the conversion to AU dollars it should be a little mode I think. The one I bought was the 280 model since was the the one including the complete set (mechanical and electronic parts) ARTF, I just have to assemble it, charge batteries and... to F!!!!!... STOP! first I'm going to spend at least 30 hours on the simulator (FMS with Futaba controller and PIC interface)

Oh, I thought you where buying the basic kit which is $280AUS the RTF pack is $540AUS
There is a better free flight sim than FMS called PRE-Flight. PRE-Flight was about $75US or something but now its FREEWARE! It has more features like moving surfaces, retracts and flaps. You can create landscapes and models but there arent as many models or landscapes as FMS available on the web but thats because no one really knows about it! Im sure if it had as much publicity as FMS thare would be a lot more. Go to http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/atv/preflight001.htm there are also instructions for interfaces and interface kits to buy.
If you have trouble getting an interface try this site in Japan http://www.sekiriki.jp/smartpropo/index.html Its called SmartPropo and uses a mono audio cable for tx connection. It is still in its development stages but is looking good. (Ive got XP Pro so not many interfaces work on my system).
Have Fun

I like it better because of the moving surfaces and flaps and retracts also wind effects actually have an effect not like in FMS. BTW what Windows are you running?? Could you try smartpropo for me?? It wont work on my pc because of XP Pro. If You have a JR radio might even have an audio cable around the house, stero or mono doesnt matter (try the one on your speakers if its double ended.) Where did you buy yor interface?

XP
I'm using W-XP Pro
The parallel interface does not work on NT systems, that's why I bought the serial interface. Having tested for 10 min PreFlight I have to say that's is a little smoother than FMS, FMS is harder to fly. And yes I got the effects on PREFlight and they are cool, but there is kind of a similar effect on FMS too, but I got the point. I think this type of discussion should be taken place on another forum ... dont you think ?? hehe.

New to helis
I havent any advice to give
I started this post because I wanted advice aswell. BTW the sim could be cheaper just depends on how much you spend on it. Try the sim called REFLEX ( www.reflex-sim.de ) its as good or even better than realflight. I dont know exactly how much it costs but ist 206 euros for the sim 31.80 euro for the model designer and 18.50 euro postage to england and probably more for overseas. If you can convert the amounts can you post your results?

Helis in FMS
By the way nenitiko FMS sucks for learning helis, try it on pre-flight its allot harder
If the planes too smooth go to "scene" in the top menu then go to quick edit and a box pops up and check the timing an calculations. if the timescale is set to 1.00 ist realtime if its higher its slowed for training and if you want it fast drop it lower than 1.00! even the trainer goes like a jet!!

I too was looking into that heli. Am interested to hear what your expeiences are with it. If you look at the video on ebay, it looks a little squirly when that guy fly's it, but maybe he has no flying experience.

Handy EP electric heli
Hi,
I am in The Netherlands and I sell this helicopter. There are two versions:
1. The Feda/Dragonfly (see image below)
2. The Smartech skylark (see link above to manufacturer)
Both helicopers are sold completely with a Futaba or GWS (depends on what is on stock) 4 channel radio system (Frequencies that are availabe are 35, 36, 40 and 72 MHz). The Dragonfly is sold for US$ 280.00 (Shipping anywhere in the world less then 30 US$).
You can check my website for the Dragonfly here. It flies very well (not easy, but heli's are hard to fly) and is quite strong. A real good price to start to learn how to fly a helicopter.
I'll put some extra parts in every order that I receive before the end of 2002.
I have no experience yet with the Skylark from Smarttech, but my supplier guaranties me that it flies as good or maybe even better than the Dragonfly. Price for the smarttech will be around US$ 260-270 for a complete set.
I am a reseller of rtf airplanes in The Netherlands. My website is mostly in Dutch. The Dragonfly is the first part that I translated into English.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Jan-Dirk Schuitemaker

I got mine out of Hong Kong and it arrived yesterday at 300PM. At 600PM I was flying around the family room (and I took an hour off during this three hour period for a Dewers and water and dinner). Although the Ikarus folks are probably not too happy about this Piccolo knock-off, it does have some unique features. The assembled airframe was nicely put together and straight as an arrow. The mini strong box enclosure aft of the main rotor shaft is a great place to stuff the gyro and hide excess wiring(nice touch). I had a bits box with a couple extra GWS Pico BB servos, a GWS 4 channel rcvr and an old PG-03 gyro that I got in a swap. Get out the old reliable 3M mounting tape. Stick the parts on the airframe. Grab a fresh seven cell NiMh pack. Adjust the throws, check for reversed controls. Kick the tires, light the fires...Nice hover, tweak the gyro gain and then off around the house for a nice walkabout. Not a bad little FP e-heli. You should sell lots of these neat little machines.
Cheers - Boyd
