Default 1/5 scale pede...body pics now!

well, its only an idea right now.
and i wont have the cash for awhile.

but i can get a redcat rampage 1/5 scale body
and a set of redcat earthquake 8e tires(largest tires i know of that have a 12mm hex)
and a set of wheel extensions to widen the truck.
and then stretching the stampede is pretty easy.
a high torque metal geared steering servo would be needed as well.

I think a 1/5 scale VXL pede that is 30 inches long would be pretty cool. the added length and width should help handling i believe.

With the wheel size and overall bulk you'll be putting stampede parts under a lot of stress.

true. the earthquake tires are about 5-6 inches tall. i know i would have to gear down the motor.
and that the stub axles and slider shafts would be more likely to fail. but i think they could hold up for a decent amount of time if the slipper is set right.

I would of course be upgrading the hubs, arms ect to RPM ones.

alloy shocks would be needed. im sure the added strain of larger tires would make the stockers break.

Id also have to fab up some taller body mounts(most likley anyway)

I dont think i have every seen a 1/5 pede or VXL chassis. I think it could be a fun project.

I can get the 1/5 body and tires/wheels for $100
Then another $40 maybe for wheel extensions.
I would find a decent used pede for around $100-$150
$20 for a better servo
Then add the cost of some metal to stretch the chassis and probly fab up some bigger bumpers/skid plates.
Maybe around $350 total?

Um, anyone know where i can get some wheel extensions?
I checked ebay, but only found ones for the 1/16 scale revo/slash.

I do currently have a rustler VXL that i could do the conversion to, but the stampede might be a better chassis(taller)

The stampede is not meant for that... and you would probably break parts just from the weight of everything.

But if you were to get big tires, go for the Imex Jumbo Kongs, they are the lightest for their size, unlike the 5th scale stuff.

the jumbo kongs have 14mm hex tho dont they?

i now have a pede chassis. will start working on the stretch. i may widen the chassis where the a-arms attatch instead of wheel extensions.
i have the body and body posts ordered from redcat.
and i have a set of longer, full alloy shocks that may get used as well.

Yeah, they are 14mm... but you should just be able to jerry-rig some t-maxx hexes on the stampede.

possible.
for now, im gonna stick with some redcat earthquake rims/wheels. they are the biggest wheels i know of that have a 12mm hex and only cost me $20

I dont think i will be adding that much weight onto the chassis.

the hubs and shocks will be the parts that will have the most increased load on them. i will have RPM hubs on, and may use different shocks altogether.

i think you would have better luck if you used two gear boxes . you would need a sheet of alloy or carbon fiber. bolt the gear boxes close to each other with a motor in each and one sliding traxxas cvd connecting both tougher

why would 2 gear boxes be needed?

the truck should only be 2 pound heavier when i get done with it. thats well within the limits of a single vxl system.

your double gear box is a neat idea tho. never seen or heard of a setup like that done.

i should have the truck built in a week or so.

would be a beefier setup for a 1/5 scale . dont forget about drag from the extra weight

2 siderwinder sct 44.00 so 88.00 shipped on ebay

2 tacon 40.00

120 or so, less them one vxl setup

you forgot to add the cost of another tranny.

i have used a vxl system in an emaxx, which is very heavy and has big tires. thats the max limit of the system(and the motor has to be geared down to work in that truck) my pede wont be half as heavy.

i do like your idea tho. it would look beafy and cool. just dont have the funds for an extra ESC and motor and tranny.

the build would not be cheap

is this similar to what you are trying to do accept a little wider

yep, simillar idea. mine will be a simpler stretch tho.

im hoping the rims i have will have enough of an offset that they will widen the stance enough to look right.

if not, i will make new A-arm mounts(wider), longer camber links and tie rods.

im also not planning on moving the servo location. thats gonna stay stock.

Is that chassis a homebuilt or is it available?

it home made for about 6 dollars. all that was done is cut the stamped or slash chassis in half [ if you using a slash chassis you will need to cut the sides off as well to the battery tray ] go to your local home improvement store and get a piece on angle aluminum and bolt it on as seen in pic. a dremel tool or a drill will be needed

angle aluminum the one 36inch will be good for both sides

If you are going to move the suspension arm mounts further from the center of the chassis and extending tie rods for the rest, be prepared for some negative consequences. Severe camber swing from positive to negative in suspension travel, front toe increase as suspension compresses, and horrific steering implications - ackerman changes with suspension travel. Oh the horror!

i had thought that widening it like that would throw off the steering some.

im hoping the rims i have will widen the truck enought to work anyway.

i8tweety, at least warn the women and children to look away before unleashing that kind of horror.

I don't think you'll have any problems. as far as weight goes, there are a LOT of electric 1/10 and 1/8 trucks that are MUCH heavier than this will be.

thank you!
the only real issue i see is the large diameter(and width) tires putting more strain on the driveshafts.

I don't know if that's going to be as big of an issue as you think. I've used pede half shafts as drive shafts on a wheely king, and just to get it to work, I had to bend the joint outward on both sides. It never had any problems. My point is that those things are made to be really strong. I'm curious to see how this thing turns out.

i got the chassis today.

a vxl system also arrived.

here is the chassis with the earthquake tires on it. the offset on the rims makes it so the tires dont rub the a-arms when fully turned!

they also widen things a fair bit. not really 1/5 scale wide, but pretty close. total width with the tires is 15 inches
