Ribbed is for more torque but its much louder and on bigger engines can make the "half tank lean" more present. Polished is for more top speed and doesnt have any negative side effects that i know of.

Since your in the UK the ABSOLUTE BEST pipe you can get is the Mielke One. Thiers is much better than the HPI polished and ribbed. It gives better low end and better high end (more high end). If you want the full details you can visit thier website (link on Mirage). Basicly, they say that they can make the aluminum thinner to give better heat transfer, but then coat it with chrome (some electronic process) so that it is actually stronger than most other pipes.
It is a bit more expensive, but well worth it if you ask me. And a 1 piece so you dont have to bother with the little silicone connector that comes off in hard jumps.

someguywitasavage, the pipes are the opposite. The polished pipe is for low-end and torque, and the tuned pipe is for top end. This is what HPI says on its FAQ page.

I run the polished pipe. I had it on my X when it was stock. I now have it on my STS .28. For the price you can not get a better tuned pipe.

Hey I got a questions since you're talking pipes. I had a stock savage 25 I got of ebay it came with a polished pipe that had the extentsion on it that looks like a cherry bomb. I thought it was kinda cheesy. So the other day when I put my new k 4.6 engine back in my truck I cut the cherry bomb looking thing off and made the pipe look like a standard polished pipe. What do you guys think, right or wrong and is the pipe the way it was just as good before I cut it off or did I make a difference.

The ribbed pipe is more bottom end and most do not like it. Get the one I have the link listed for.

I like the one 46u linked to. What header would be best with that pipe, or does it matter[&:]. Also I have have the stock plastic .21 pipe/header on a 6 port .28[:'(] I think this is a sin-aganst-naturelol

I'm running a Racer's Edge torque/low end pipe on my .25 and it runs great. These engines need a pipe that is more biased towards the bottom end-mid range than top end. Go with one of these pipes and you'll really wake up your truck.
edit-stay away from the dual stinger pipes because they can make priming a little tough as you have to plug both stingers up to get the engine to prime. Most complaints I've heard about these types of pipes are of this nature.

I generally blow through the pressure line to prime it, so that is what you would need to do with one of those.
