Magnum XL-70RFS - how is it?
Hi there
I find that the Magnum XL-70RFS is priced at $149.99 at Tower Hobbies.
Question
1. Why is the 70 priced $20 less than the 61RFS? Is there a problem with the engine - is it some sort of clearance sale?
2. Where can I find a review of the engine? Why is there so little info on this engine in RCU?
3. Can anyone who own's it offer comments on its performance?
4, How does it compare with the Magnum XL-61RFS/
MAny thanks

RE: Magnum XL-70RFS - how is it?
Magnum puts all their engines on sale every now and then. The $149.99 is a great buy. If I hadn't just bought a Saito .56, I'd buy a second one. I have a Mag .91, .70 & .61 and a buddy has the .52. I also have Saitos, .91 (2) .72 & .56.
the Mags run just as well, but they are heavier, like the OS's. The .70 is a new design with the tube running from the cam area to the inlet pipe as opposed to the oil drain on the bottom of the crankcase.
The .61 is a nice running engine, but no powerhouse. It's better than a plain bearing .40, but not up to a ball-bearing .46. The .70 is pretty potent. It compares to the OS .70. It pulls a Big Stick 40 vertical.

Keep an eye on www.hobbypeople.net for sale prices on Magnum engines. They drop the prices fairly often.

The Magnum 70 is an outstanding engine! It's a heck of a bargain price wise too! Mine is now turning a 13-6 Master Airscrew K series prop at 10,300 after richening it up for flight. I'm using CoolPower 15% with castor added. It is now (about 4 gallons through it) turning more RPM than my OS FS70S2 with the exact same prop.
They got this engine right for sure.

This is the link you want
http://www.rcgroups.com/links/index.php?id=4450
I think it's a great little engine but it depends really what you want to use it on.
Cheers

The 70FS pulls a 13X6 prop on the test bench only 300 rpm less than the now discontinued 80FS. It also has the benefit of harder and tougher alloys in the crank, cam & sleeve, according to the factory engineers.
