Default BALSA WOOD FILLERS

RECENTLY I ACQUIRED A 27% CAP 232 THAT SOMEONE HAD HIT A TREE WITH. IT WAS'NT THAT BAD EXCEPT FOR THE FUSALAGE HAD BROKEN RIGHT AHEAD OF THE RUDDER. IT WAS A SNAP TO FIX SO I TOOK IT. THE FIRST ATTEMPT AT COVERING IT THE GLUE JOINTS SHOWED THRU. SOMEONE TOLD ME TO GRIND DOWN THE GLUE JOINT AND FILL IT WITH FILLER. I ASKED WHAT KIND? THEY SAID RED DEVIL SPACKLE. I DID AND IT COVERED BEAUTIFULLY. A FEW DAYS WENT BY AND I LOOKED AND IT LOOKED LIKE AN ARF THAT CAME FROM OVER SEA. BUBBLE ALL OVER.I TRY TO USE A HEAT GUN TO NO AVAIL. IT JUST WOULDN'T STICK. NOW FOR THE QUESTION, IS THERE ANY FILLER THAT MONOKOTE WILL STICK TO?

THANKS,
RUSTY

A bit of primer or clear dope over the filler will give the Monokote somthing to stick to.

I use Red Devil spackle also for filling dents and dings but it does need to be sealed with something. I use thined down epoxy.

Thin CA works great over lighty spackle. It really penetrates and is as hard as a rock when it dries. Als sands very smooth, and will take a coat of dope over it to adhere the covering to it. I use Koverall on my planes. Haven't had any problems yet.
