Default Funtana S Cowl

Is it necessary for good cooling to cut out the underside of the cowl all the way back to the bottom-front of the fuse or would right about the firewall be okay.

Thanks, Jerry

Anybody have any pics of their cutout?

Default Cooling cutout.

It is a must!

Here is my first cut. The finish cut is much nicer looking now.

I run a Saito .72 in mine and cut out just enough for the muffler and cylinder head to stick out without rubbing. Mine cools just fine and gets a lot of 3d'ing. No need to destroy that nice cowl unless you want to. 'Course I run 30% in mine, maybe that makes a diff, I dunno.

Your cooling outlet should be at least 140% of the inlet. The air has to go somewhere. Some of these guys with the cutout just barely enough to clear the muffler, I'm very surprised they aren't overheating. They probably are.

I opened up the entire bottom of my Funtana with the OS 46, from the muffler outlet back all the way, and across the bottom, from about 3/4 in from the sides. You can't see it on the ground, you don't notice it in the air, and my engine doesn't overheat at all.

my two cents,

Default Overheating

To each his own. I have over 30 hours of flight of flight on mine and no overheating problems whatsoever. "Course I have my engine tuned properly. My eyes are pretty decent during the day & I have a feeling if I cut the whole bottom out of my cowl since I fly my plane usually within a hundred fifty feet of me I would notice. Maybe not but since my engine doesn't overheat I guess it isn't an issue.

Bottom line...... cut your cowl the way you see fit. If it gets hot, cut it some more.

Maybe if you did all your 3D inverted, you wouldn't care what the bottom looked like!

Just couldn't resist!

I love the transparent blue C!

Yup! Sometimes we open ourselves up for a broadside!

Thanks for the compliment. I didn't much care for the yellow and the plane seemed to "Drum" a lot the first day I flew it so I went home, stripped all the yellow off of it and replaced it with clear blue Monokote. You can't see it in the pic but I tipped the wings with white stripes too. I like it and it is quieter in the air now as well. I think the Monokote is a little thicker.
