Homemade Molds?

Question: Can anyone suggest any tips or products that are easily available from your local harware store that can be used to make your own molds for small items? Ideally something that can be used to duplicate an original item over and over, say for exhaust stacks, prop blades, surface scoops, etc. I've heard about using a mold release agent on the parts (don't know what or where to get this) then using silicon bath tub sealer on the part to make the mold. any tips here would be helpful!

I have used GE SiliconII with good results. You will need to find a good release agent. It is good for small parts that will not need a thick wall of the silicon to hold its shape.

Hi Sean heres a couple easy ways
1. Do like I did for my Hurricane exhausts and grab a 2x4 and start carving. (yes i actually did use a 2x4)
2. carve balsa
3. BONDO that makes good molds can carve to shape before it fully cures then sand to final finish
4. carve from foam funish with a later of bondo.
These are all for making the plugs. then just put a few layers of poly u on top of them and wetsand and buff to a smooth finish. add mold release then glass to make your mold. piece of cake lol
