Lanier giant stinger
What wonderful marriage : Giant Stinger and Zenoah G-22. Have this combination fying from more than 12 years and every fly became impressed. Plane was constructed as per plans and weighs 20 lb with wing surface 1560 sq. in.
G-62 pulls at 28 lbs thrust, 7150 RPM with Zinger 22x6-10 prop.
Of course is not a 3D plane, but does normal aerobatic very well. Lands like a dream.
People that knows the plane knows about these caracteristics.
This is my tribute to this wonderful kit out of market from long time and allways a pleasure to fly.

That brings back some memories! My first " big gas plane" was a Stinger with a G-62. I had a Zinger 22-10 prop on mine also. That plane introduced a lot of people to gas models. Sold mine after hundreds of flights. Built mine with a balsa turtledeck. Your correct, it really was a wonderfull kit....Gene

Having had a Stinger and now an Escapade there are a great deal of differences in my view. Construction is not at all the same for the most part and the Escapade is very much lighter for it's size. They both fly well but the Escapade does much more on half the CC's....mine has the DLE 35ra. Don't get me wrong, I flew the Stinger to death (play on words), it's only real fault was the Crappy Lanier ABS Plastic parts that cracked after a while and it is a heavy plane.

My Stinger fuse still sits in the rafters. If it wasn't for a dog killing the wing a bunch of years ago I'd be tempted to resurrect it at times. My G62 went from there to a Laser 200, also by Lanier, and after cracking it in half over a decade ago (when I took a break from the addiction) it's just fixing to be put back into use.

Hi Guys! I was fortunate enough to come across a Giant Stinger kit, (84" span), as a replacement for a Stinger 120 I lost in a house fire some years back. I'll be powering it with a DLE 60cc twin. Any advise on reinforcing, servo recommendations, or anything else you guys think I should know, would be helpful. I'm an "old school" modeler and enjoy building kits. Although this isn't my first giant scale build, it has been a while since I've had balsa scraps super-glued to my fingers.

Glass the insides of the Plastic parts to keep them from the cracking that will happen sooner or later! I built several Stingers and this was a given. I used a light Glass fabric and ABS pipe glue to
cover the inside of the parts use it as you would epoxy. When dry you can trim the edges and have the same effect as actual fiber-glassing. Be careful with the glue as it will mess-up the finish if allowed to contact the outsides and soften the plastic until dry.
This advice comes from my recollections from about 15 years. ago............It worked well for me.

Forgot, the fuselage is weak at the rear of the wing of the wing saddle where it has a bend on the sides going back to the tail. I used tri-stock on the insides with 30 min epoxy and flat carbon fiber on the outside hidden under the covering.
My planes dated from about the end of Lanier's ownership and some of the parts were very poor...........

I am currently building the Giant Scale (84" wing span) Stinger. Right now I am working on the lower half of the fuse and have a couple of questions... First is the Gas tank box supposed to be fully boxed and braced? I can't tell very well from the plans.
Second question, how are the Aileron Servo wires supposed to run through the wings?

I seem to remember cutting a small trench in the foam to run the wires.
Some will say to replace the door skins with something lighter as well as the plastic turtle deck and I'd consider this on another as well, but keep in mind these always come out nose heavy and require a lot of weight on the tail to balance. Losing weight in the tail is great as long as you can do the same in the nose. On my Stinger AND Laser 200 I cut a spot under the h stabs to mount 2 6v battery packs and ran extensions to the switches. The still needed lead but less of it.
Mounting the servos in the tail is a must as well. No pull pull here as the weight is needed in the rear.

I have a new in the box kit, foam wings. Need trade for a G-38 size Extra type kit? Could be other aerobatic like Edge or ?????
