I have been using a lever type 2 channel transmitter (Futaba Attack T2ER 40Mhz) for a while but I find it difficult to use for a car and want to chabge to a wheel and trigger type.
I only want the transmitter and have been looking on ebay and other online shops. It seems that this type of transmitter in 40 Mhz guise is much less common than the 27Mhz version and I cannot find anywhere selling just the transmitter. I am keeping an eye on ebay as this is probably my best bet but there seems to be a shortage of these here as well. Is it just a case of keep looking? I presume any 2 channel 40 Mhz AM unit will work, I will swap the crystal over from my current transmitter. The car is a 1/8 Nitro Buggy.

I think in your situation it'd be easier to replace both the transmitter and reciever - allowing you to sell the Futaba gear to recoup some of the costs and avoid any problems that may arise from using different brands of transmitter and reciever.

Thanks for that. If I choose to change both transmitter and receiver, should I go for the more common 27Mhz and should I go the FM route?

It really depends on how much you're willing to spend.

however...

I strongly advise you spend more on a good 2.4ghz [link=http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFunction=ShowSpecification&ItemID=28419]radio[/link] for the extra functions and piece of mind that comes with glitch-free operation and not having to worry about what frequencies others are on.
