Default How do I stick plastic covering

I read about Stix-it and cover-rite, I may not be calling them by the right name but I'm talking about the glues that Sig makes to stick plastic film. I have a plastic film that looks like a mirror on one side and colored on the other side. I have tried to use it on a couple of different planes using the stix-it but it just doesn't work the way it should. After a while it lets loose.

My question is is there any thing out there that will make a plastic film stick besides these products. The plastic sheeting I am talking about is really nice and shrinks up good but has no glue on it to make it stick. Has anyone tried to stick plastic with some other type of glue. for example, spray glue or contact cement, etc. If you have found that plastic can be stuck with some other glue would you tell me about it, and how to use it.

THANKS for reading, if you can help please do

Thanks Bill

It could be that the film you have just isn't compatible with the application for which you're using it.

Some of these coverings have a thin backing that you have to peal off before you iron them on. This may be the case where yours does not stick. Or to high of heat setting , shrinking before bonding to structure.

I have used Balsa Rite and Stick It and they work great with most coverings.

I use SIG StixIt for non adhesive films and fabrics.

I brush on a coat and let it dry. Then I sand it LIGHTLY with 220 to get off any "bumps and lumps".
Go over it with a tack rag to get off all the dust and crap.
Then apply another THIN coat and let it dry.

Then apply your covering.

Without applying heat, the wood will tear up before the covering comes loose.
Apply heat and you can remove the covering without damaging the wood.

If your thinking of using the mirror side out...you might want to re-think that.....I had a 4 Star 60 that I used chrome Monokote on just the fuselage.....the chrome would reflect clouds and sky....sometimes it looked like all I was flying was wings and tail, which were orange, in a tight formation.....
