RE: Engines for Royal B-25?
Mine flys fine on old Saito 45s with 3 blade props. They are the special editions with the high lift cam. The Surpass 40s would probably fly it fine with 2 blade props. Or go with Saito 56s. The saitos are great because you don't have to butcher the cowls to get the mufflers out. The plane weighs just over 10lbs. flaps but no retracts

RE: Engines for Royal B-25?
HI;Just accumulated a pair of Saito 80s They look a little big but notice the box says 40-60 2 strokes.Friend that works on saito suggested maybe Saito 56s would be ideal? But if they suggest a 60 maybe the 80s aren't out of the question either.Cowls look awful small for the 80s though. Thanks

The FA-80 engines were made as ABC and AAC. The weight is different enough that if you have one of each it should be easy to tell.
You can tell which yours are if they match weights by pulling a rocker cover and checking the pockets for the valve spring. The AAC will show a brass ring outside the spring pocket, the ABC will not. See picture, the AAC is on the left, ABC on the right.
Point of this? The ABC engines could be a lot heavier than you would like, the AAC engine is almost the same weight as the FA-56 and the FA-72, should work fine. The ABC has the weight of the FA-65.

All the FA-72 and FA-82 engines are AAC. The early FA-80 engines were ABC, the last production were AAC.
The FA-72 and the FA-80 piston and cylinder are the same. If you order a new cylinder for your ABC FA-80 your engine will be an AAC after repair. The ABC cylinder is no longer supplied.
the only ABC Saito single currently supplied is the FA-65. To demonstrate the weight penalty of the ABC as opposed to AAC, the FA-65 at 19 ounces is the heaviest Saito single until you get up to the FA-91S, and the FA-91S is only 0.6 ounces heavier than the FA-65.

RE: Engines for Royal B-25?
Me Again!Found a pair of Saito 56s it was suggested that they might be good engines in it!Still look awful big though?Have more faith in the 4 strokes being reliable but guess that isn't always the fact! From what I can finds it looks liked that engine is even liter than the 50 saito.Hate to spend the money if they wouldn't be good in this plane as don't need them otherwise already have bunch of 40s engine gathering dust kind of got out of that size planes now more in to the 60 up size. Finally admit need bigger planes to see them anymore!!

It all depends on how heavy yours will be. I have seen these anywhere from 8 to 14 lb. Just ask yourself how much power you would want for a single engine scale plane at half the weight?

RE: Engines for Royal B-25?
The 56s will be perfect. The heads stick out of the cowls just past the muffler outlet. You will need to cut out the fire wall for the carb and make a small relief for the needle valve. On mine the backplate is almost even with the firewall. I fly with 10x7.5 3blade props. Ground clearance becomes an issue with anything bigger. I can take some pictures of my set up if you want them. Although mine is kinda hacked together since it wasn't built with the saitos in mind.

How about the RCV 58CD. They have a smaller head than most 4 strokes since they use a rotating valve instead of rockers.
Then there's the 60SP which would allow for a larger 3 blade prop.
