Default Jet Speed Event - Videos

Well... here it is some pics and info of the Jet Speed event at Curitiba, Brazil.. It was super fun,
well organized and very enjoyable.. not major accidents beyond some broken landing gear legs
and a cracked fuselage on my roo (bummer) ... but it was a super day, and the crowd and pilots
liked it very much.

Here it is the inpound area, with otavio (red shirt, the builder of that f-15 i flown recently) ....

This is a father/son team of builders, Gustavo and Missola flying a Hotspot with a USA modellbau
T-750 at 347 Km/h .. The single fin version HS flew with a T-900 but suffered some setup problems
and read less, at 340 Km/h. i only have this partial results, and some models opted not to fly with
the GPS,, they are at 5th and 6th place at this time.

This is the well known giant hotspot (a scratch built version of the HS scaled up 1.5 times) of Roberto Guandalini, with a AMT olympus, and it readed 365 Km/h.. it´s very nice to see this plane
flying with it´s smoke system.. this plane also has a digital video recorder that was set on while flying. I´ll post the video here soon. this plane is at 4th place.

At third place we have this Bobcat, with a unidentified turbines (perhaps you guys could help me
identify it) from Mr. Berto and Mr.França, from Brasilia ... 390 Km/h, a very fast and nice flying plane. also some pics from the crowd.

Here it is the amt Pegasus powered Perereka , from Manoel Dias.. he thrilled the crowd making the
lowest passes and more radical flying (he is the guy who makes chest-level rolls and made that
dive that the GPS read months ago 600 Km/h) ... today he made the highest dive of all pilots but the
gps only reached 417 Km/h... we didn´t know what happened but it didn´t looked different or slower
than that day.. he is actually placing second. and this is a pic of Vadico, a full-size aircraft show
annuncer that is actually a narrator and a enciclopedy of general aviation. he is also a judge from
the f3a-x and f3a parts of our event.

And this is the current leader, the Super Hot Spot... titan powered and drived by yours truly at
465 Km/h on it´s second flight! not bad!!! all pilots flying in this competion can make three official
flights now they need to beat this speed..and this baby is really faaaast!!! here it is guarded by it´s builder, mr. Patake. Congrats to my friends and team mates, Patake and Joao for doing well!!! [sm=thumbup.gif]
and also for my wife and daughters (here with a friend) who supported me in this crazy hobby!

Some more pics... this is a full size Extra 260 from a neighbord airplane airport, who maked a great
show...a nice thing that the plane at a distance, looked pretty much like a r/c aerobatic plane, but when he made a full throttle low pass over our runway, this impression vanished and looked like
a speeding train!

A handy gadget to eliminate discussions about interferences and a good way to check if someone made any mistake in the frequency control system.

Some of the planes on today´s lineup: The perereca flew today at 510 Km/h (a important mod was
done today, more on that later) the super hot spot flew at 470 Km/h, so I dropped to second place for now...

Roberto´s raptor was flown today, pegasus powered. It reached a somewhat low 360 Km/h but
he didn´t make a too long dive... plenty fast, but considering the age of this airframe, Roberto
wisely didn´t stressed it too much. He later flew again his giant HS, at 365 Km/h...

The sad note of the day was Gustavo Alonso Hurricane.. he was flying it low at a knife edge attitude
and then, the anouncer with the microphone asked his if he could narrate what he was doing while flying, he said "sure no problem!" when he just spoked the "problem" he lost orientation, got inverted and pulled full up..... I think that the plane didn´t have time enough to explode or burn,
because it simply desintegrated in a crater... the good part of it is that all the pilots flew away from
the pits and espectators, and the plane crashed "safely" in the flying area far from us.

This is the F-86 1/2... a sport model of 50´s jet fighter, sold as a kit by Paulinho from Brasilia and
flown at 290 Km/h with a jetcat P-70 and 340 Km/h with a modellbau usa T-900 that was swapped
by big Berto at his hotel room at night. this plane also flew nicely with a YS 140 four stroke engine..

some pics of the HS at flight, sorry about the half-opened speed brake,,, it only fully opens under
250 km/h the event photographer made some pics of it while I was flying and now i took
the pic of the pic... sorry for the quality.

The coolest thing to do with this bird is a low flyby straight over the runway after a big dive, while the crowd roaring and gasping at the stands, pretty much like a footbal stadium.. A woman said that she tried to follow the plane at this passes, but she couldn´t focus on the plane itself, she just
glanced a blur!

Hy , we Americans are way to anal and litigious of a society (AMA) to have that kinda fun. Its a shame we need a passport and a visa to have some fun. Its funny how you can go to jet events, see radar guns yet not want to speak about it in a public forum.....

Well, tomorrow we are going to take a rest, and thursday Manoel and I will fly the third flight, and
it doesn´t matter who wins at all, both of us had a great time and almost all of the pilots had it too this weekend, and the final battle of the Perereka x Super Hotspot , will be decided...

Thx Eddie, this jet speed event was great, and attracted a lot of interest of modelers of any fashion
of R/C and espectators alike. I hope that someday I´ll see your Police Isobar with a gps, here in
Curitiba.
