RE: Vindicator II
Hi Hal, yep lookin good! I'm scratching one too, looks a bit like yours if 4 people grabbed a corner each & stetched it. Fuse & tail done, wings on the way. BTW, what are you doing for a canopy, I'm having trouble sourcing one in Oz so a friend is pulling me an Extra 300 one which I will try to adapt. - John.

RE: Vindicator II
I hope to have it in the air in a week or two. I am having trouble finding a canopy too. John, look at the Great Planes Ultra Sport 60 canopy from Tower Hobbies. I think it will work. Post some pictures of your design. I would like to see it. I am pleased with mine but I might make one change. The cockpit needs to be moved forward. The nose is a little too long.
I will probably take some of the down thrust out. My first design had to have a lot to keep it level. I just used the washers from it.

RE: Vindicator II
Hal,
Nice design, hope your maiden goes well. Looked through some of your earlier posts, found out its for 12lb thrust turbines. You can be sure many of us with smaller turbines are very interested. What are the span, length, approximate wing area, dry weight and kero capacity? What servos and retracts?
Where is the balance point/cg? For the maiden you might want to shift the balance point forwards about 1 inch from your calculated/empiracle cg location, just for safety. Nose heavy will probably be flyable, tail heavy may not be recoverable.
I'm also looking for something similar to build up for my MW44.
Best of luck.

RE: Vindicator II
The wingspan is 54" and I think the weight is going to be around 12-13lbs. I am not using retracts so it will be pretty light. If if flys good I may add retracts later. I have a 40oz tank right now with a BVM Ultimate air trap. The wings were made using BVM Bobcat plans so it is basically a Bobcat wing.
It has a 14lb Wren 54 on it. I am waiting on my main gear so I don't know where the balance point is yet. I have a MW44 that is not on a plane and am thinking about building a smaller version for it.
The plane is all wood. If someone could make a plug for the fuselage I think it would be a nice intro jet similar to the Boomerang.

Here's mine Hal. It's a little bigger than yours at 2 metres span & length. I'm using a Wren Super Sport (18 lbs) so I would like the all up weight to be that or less. Time to start the wings! - John.

RE: Vindicator II
NOT BAD AT ALL!!
I like that John. Keep your tail moment as short as you can. I made my first one too long and had to add way too much weight to the nose. I wish I had put more lightening holes in mine the way you did. I could have cut my weight down even further.
Are you going to put retracts on yours? I didn't enclose my engine like you did so I could use a wand start and save the weight.

RE: Vindicator II
Hal, I know what you mean about the weight, having the engine behind the CG means you start with a handicap already. I can get the six cell 2000 mA ECU pack in the extreme nose and the two radio batteries just behind that and the nose is very long so I hope I don't have to add weight. All the other radio & jet bits are up front too.
Yep, I'm fitting retracts, Robart 630's with some oleos of an old prop driven plane that I planted. Our field has noise issues so I enclosed the engine to try to keep in some of the noise and to make sure the hot engine would not rest on the long grass in case of an off strip landing. Good luck with the maiden, when's that? - John.

RE: Vindicator II
Not yet. Work or the weather has kept me from flying.
I used the Ultra Sport 60 canopy and it fit perfect. I will try and take a few pictures of the completed plane. It has fixed gear but looks okay. If it flys okay I think I am going to make a smaller one for a Wren 44 with retracts.

A friend has 2 MW44's & is ordering a new Gold edition, really sweet little engines. Finally decided on a name for the beast, went with the cat theme - Alleycat. - John.
