Please Help me identify/fix this model
Hi guys,
I recently got this vintage RC gas corvette and it's missing some parts and manuals.
I need your help to identify what model is this, what is it missing and how can i get it to work?
The body is corvette zr-1 and i can see the "kyosho" brand on chassis and engine. but i assume it's missing radio and maybe some parts?

It's a Kyosho Corvette ZR1 with an OS.12 engine made in the 90's.
You will need a transmitter/controller and a receiver and a battery cradle for 4-AA batteries . The battery cradle will need a plug that mates up to the switch connector.
You will need a glow starter wand and some fuel.
If the engine is good that is all you should need to get the engine running. If the gears and drivetrain , servos are good then it should drive too..
Get a transmitter, receiver and battery box and hook it up and make sure the servos work properly. Then fuel it up , heat-up the glow plug and press the prime button on the tank to prime the carb, then try and start it.
Good luck !

Awesome thanks for the help.
Do you know how feasible would be to build own controller/receiver with arduino to control it with smart phone?
otherwise how much the transmitter/receiver would cost and where can i get it? and are there any preferred brands or models?
and what does an OS.12 engine mean? is it a brand? capacity?
Sorry i have no prior experience to nitro RC cars, i just know a little about electronics
Appreciate it.

It would not be feasible at all. A transmitter and receiver is only $20. OS is the brand and .12 means it is a .12 cubic inch engine and that .12 is the volume of the space the piston travels in a single stroke. I'll put you together a little kit of stuff you need to get that thing going.
Igniter and fuel bottle; http://www.dollarhobbyz.com/catalog/...cc-fuel-bottle
Receiver/transmitter; http://www.dollarhobbyz.com/catalog/...-3-ch-receiver
AA battery holder; http://www.amazon.com/Tactic-Cell-Ba.../dp/B002I9V60E
And some fuel of your choosing. I think 15% (amount of nitro in fuel) would be good with this particular engine. Good luck!

The body looks like it's in a great shape. For the first steps, I'd probably get a different one and wouldn't have to worry about crashing the nice Corvette (I have a '93 convertible). Before you run this, make sure everything works as it should, especially the brake as this is fairly fast and when you hit something, it'll break and some parts are really hard to find for these. OS engines are really good, but you need to get familiar with the needle settings, glow plugs and the fuel mixture you are going to use. I am sure you can find someone who lives close by and will help you get the engine started and show you how to set the needles. And it's a lot more fun to race with others.

I don't know about this particular model. Some brakes are inside the gearbox, some are outside.
Some are discs, just like in a real car, some are drums, I had a car with drum brake inside the differential gear.
There should be two push rods on the throttle servo, one goes to the carburetor and the other one one controls the brake.

nice find....
Id recommend rebuilding it straight away.... the chances are the the grease on the diff has gone bad, same deal with the ballbearings and the engine.
if the engine is full up of old oil that's turned into sludge or hard deposits its really worth flushing the engine out with WD40 before trying to start it, that will clear out the oil oil and help dissolve any rust.
same deal with the diff and wheel/gearbox bearings
my only other thought.... its a vintage engine and might be problematic. if this is your first experience with nitro engine id highly recommend getting help with the first run.
that way they can try to tune it for you and make sure there are no major problems....

I was able to find it and fix it, although the brake is not very strong, is that normal among these RC cars? or it needs tuning? the servo pushes against the break but the actual brake does not hold the bell housing very strong.
Just curious.
It also spits oil out of the exhaust. is that normal too?

yes its normal to spill oil out of the exhaust
how much depends on how rich you are running the engine, and what brand of fuel you use.
When I ran Traxxas Top fuel for example I had tons of oil coming out of the exhaust to the point you could see where I ran the RC as there were lines going all over. Swapped to o'donnel, and had way less to where it wasn't noticeable
as for brakes... yes some aren't that strong it all depends on the brake style, how adjustable they are, and how powerful the servo is that is engaging them. I'll be honest I never saw one that pushed on the bell housing before.
