Default 140L

Hi Dave.

I have a 140L that vibrated the screws loose that hold in the cam shaft bearing , it resulted in the teeth of the camshaft getting broke off.
I have a camshaft from a spare 140L but I would like to know how to set the timing again? , there is a pip on the crankshaft and a pip on the camshaft , the pip on the crankshaft is nearly pointing down when piston is TDC
also will I have to strip down engine to chck for metal particles?

Thanks for your help,

John

With the psiton at TDC, the punch mark on the side of the cam gear goes straight UP. I would take this engine apart and check it for chips before running it again.

Thanks Dave but 1 last thing , when u say the pip on camshaft goes UP , I assume you mean Up the same direction as the piston?
Also Dave is the tappet gap .003"?? and when do i set this , also at TDC?

Just to confirm , TDC is when the piston is fully UP , cos at that point the pip on crankshaft counterweight is NOT exactly pointing down.

Keep up the good work ,John

At TDC the punch mark is straight up, same as the piston.

Valves at .003" is correct.

Good Luck!
