uhhh most cdrom drives are 12 pole.... wiring diagram is wrap one pole until full then skip two wrap, skip wrap then start with your next wire repeating. you can look here for the proper neodimum magnets: http://www.engconcepts.net/List_Of_Ring_Magnets.asp
cheap, good quality, and can be coustom ordered. just take 12 N50 , 5x5x1mm magnets placing them around the outer rim of the motor N/S/N/S spacing evenly and CAing them in place. there hook that up to your ESC and you got a brushless motor!,

Tapestreamers (e.g. Ditto) have large diameter multipole stators.

Nice pics Thanks for posting.

I've used a direct drive brushless for the tail, when I made one up at 11grams once.

But the controllers I found really weren't suitable for the task.

But a complete direct drive heli - main also, would be a good idea And would be cheap if made in quantity.

as well as quality, how much does it cost for that upgrade? heh that looks really sweet as well as it looks like it has more power than it knows what to do with, equip that with belt drive, and unless you crashed you could haul until your blades snap. [>:]

PS: I enjoy that kind of thing.

well I meant how much do the parts cost? and where can you get them, this might be my next upgrade, but I already DO have a brushless motor.... oh well, guess I'll have to save up.

There are no parts available, that's how diy it is. You can however rewind floppy disk drive motors:
