stupid engine question
I know it's a dumb question, but I can't seem to find the answer... what are the different shaft-types on nitro engines? I have a XXXNT and am going to be looking for a new engine soon, which brings up another question. Which engine to buy? I just want a fast, reliable engine for under about $170. I don't race, so it doesn't need to be legal, just fast...

RE: stupid engine question
If you're going to buy a replacement engine and not concerned with sticking with what came with it then buying anything less than OS is just uncivilized.

Here are some photos of each version.
This is a short crank
This is a Pilot/SG crank
This is a standard threaded crank

Personally - i would recommend the Mugen MT12 - very very fast, and very reliable. This OS Max .15CV-R is also a great choice. Another Would be the Fantom FR18. All are great engines and within your price range

RE: stupid engine question
Studdy,
I agree OS engine are very good values for the money, but there are better engines out there
If you want a good solid basher motor and your not racing I'd get the basic OS CV .12 or .15
Plenty fast and cheep, under $100 ($80 @ tower right now)
I think bashing is harder on engines than racing, Why spend the money on something you're just out there trashing?
I run MT12 standard shaft. slide carb in my mst1,(only for racing)
Around $140-$150 on the auction site I'm not alowed to name
Do a search Great engine for the money
Pretty sure the Losi takes a standard shaft

OS?! OS stands for "Oops, sorry!" Just kidding. I run a Black Pixi from Rossi and haven't been touched by anything that I've pitted myself against.

Hey Nitroaddict, You missed 1 type of crankshaft. The Short Pilot Shaft. This is an uncommon type...I think only Traxxas and Associated use this.

CaNaDiAnRaCeR - those are the only three shaft types. AE uses the short crank shown in the first photo. Traxxas uses a slightley longer threaded crank that u need to cut, although a few manufacturers have it pre shoretened
