Default 1/16 T-55 Ideas

I've always loved the T-55 and have made a 1/35 R/C model using the Tamiya model and the 1/35 (Tiger) RC kit. I'd now like to do a 1/16 scale T-55. Any ideas? I'm thinking of using the 1/16 Pershing as the donor - it has a rear drive sprocket. I have 'scratch built' a lot in 1/35 scale and I'm confident I could do most of it using plastic card. I'm sure I could get around the wheels but I'm a bit unsure about the tracks. Would I be able to source these from somewhere?

I would suggest using the Leo2A6 as the base. Especially for any modern tank.

The speed and function of the electronics will better represent a modern tank.

The Trumpeter\WSN T34 open road wheels might be a good starting point.

I concur with edoubleaz.

T-34/85 is your best bet as a basis. Use the lower hull from the T-34/85; same amount of roadwheels and almost the same style of roadwheel. Flatten the top of the hull, that is, lower it and remove the angled hull sides (the T-55 is much lower in profile). Raise the front idler and rear sprocket to get the look right since, unlike the T-34 the running gear is not in a straight line from front to rear.

The hemispherical turret shape is the biggest hurdle.

Check out this page, they have some options for the T-55. A little pricey though.
