Default ZDZ 40 RE Hard to start...please help

I have a ZDZ 40 RE installed in my P51.
I bought the engine used from a guy here on RCU with excellent credentials.
The engine, according to the seller, was running perfect, and than it sat on his shelf for about a year or two.

I am trying to starting it and after it "burps" with the choke closed and full throttle, I throttle back, open the choke, and after one or two flips, it start, races up for a second or two and than dies.

I have been trying different low needle settings, 1 turn open, 1 1/2, 2 and so on ...same result
The timing sensor is set per specification at 5mm from TDC.
I am using fresh gallon of 92 gasoline ($4.54 ...holy crap) with 1:50 Zenoah full synthetic oil.
Gasoline freely flows from the carb to the engine....
Cowl is off.
Walbro Carb.
I tried the 5,5,1 method with RC showcase with same result.

After a few tries of starting, racing up and dying, the engine "floods", I remove the plug which is very wet, dried it off and start the process all over again.

Any idea ??? Am I missing something ?

All help is greatly appreciate it...please help
Thanks .

Default RE: ZDZ 40 RE Hard to start...please help

It seems like the carb needs a new mebrane set. The regulating diaphragm must have hardened while sitting on the shelf.
Take the carb apart, clean very well, and fit a few bucks worth of new membranes. Check gaskets and pressure pulse duct, and start all over again. While at it, fit a new plug.
