I have an old rim I can try the EZ off with. I thought I read that baking it will take it off. Someone baking their tires off the rims took the chrome off. ?

once you got a chip in them you could blow the rest off with air, or use tape ,stick it along the chips and then pull off

RE: How to remove chrome off rims?
I used Accetone.
Go to your local hardware store or a Home Depot or Lowes and get a can of Accetone or MEK.
Pour enough of it in a pan so that the face side of the wheel will sit down in the accetone.
Let it soak for a bit, 15 minutes maybe, and use a soft wire brush and brush it off and anya ccess pour some accetone on the wheels and scrub away.
I used this method and got the crhome off very easily, and then dyed my wheels black =D

Wow. That really bothers you, huh? You know, you have the choice. You don't have to read it.
I'm sure it's been asked 1000 times. And for each question asked there are several replies that either ask another question or comment about the same problem they share, or, in most cases, actual solutions people offer to the original questions. Oh, then there are the people who don't contribute anything but comment for the sake of commenting.
Well, thank you for your advise. But I'm not interested in old news. Perhaps that's why it's a live forum?

That's what I want to do is dye them. But I would think the plastic would get very soft and gummy. Even long after the acetone was washed off. Did you find that even using a soft wire brush left marks in the surface? How well did they dye after? I was thinking of doing mine a lighter colour.

RE: How to remove chrome off rims?
Well i just tested it out yesterday and while it did take a couple 15 minute dips in the dye bath, the dye would impregnate in the chrome so i ended up w/ a gloss black look. I did it on some old rims that i have worn out before i tried it on my good rims just to see if i liked how it turned out.

RE: How to remove chrome off rims?
When I removed the crhome I used a wire brush and it tended to scratch the plastic, so on the other three wheels, I used a softer type bruch and it worked fine.
Next time I dye any wheels though, I'm going to leave the crhome on, because Iw as told that it would give it a shinier look, as with dying the plastic, it's more of a flat color.
Yeah, please post pics after completion.

RE: How to remove chrome off rims?
HPI has black rims. They're indentical to the stock ones, only flat black.
Why wouldn't soaking the rims in nitro fuel not take the chrome off? My right rear rim has most of the chrome eaten away from the exhaust residue.
