Engine Savage 4.6 does not start - help !
Hi,
I was able to start the engine for the first time with the pull start. I Let it run on one full tank, everything was fine.
Then I changed slightly the settings of the engine, and could not restart it, and the pull start broke.
I replaced it with a roto start version. I tried to put back factory settings on everything, but still the engine does not start.
It begins to start sometimes, and just stops after 3-5 seconds or so.
The weird thing is that I after that happens, I can t even restart it. The roto start won't even turn the engine anymore. Like if the pressure was so high - or whatever - , and the roto start just hangs. I need to remove the glow plug (which lets evacuate the pressure), and then the rotostart works. If I put the plug back (tight), the roto start really has a hard time turning the engine. It will do couple turns, but then hangs before the engine can start.
It's probably some settings which are not correct... but I have no clue which one. Any expert device ?

your engine is probably flooded, that's why your rotostart won't turn over your engine. remove the glow plug & washer and turn over your engine w/ the rotostart. you should see fuel come out of the hole. you can also turn the truck upside down and turn the engine over. You shouldn't adjust your needle settings after the first tank. I think the stock settings are 2 1/2 turns out on the HSN and 2 turns out on the LSN for the K4.6. Put it back to factory settings (check manual) and start over. also, check the glow plug and make sure your battery for the rotostart is fully charged. IMO the pullstart is better than a rotostart and easier to tell if the engine is flooded. Use the search option on the forums and research the other threads, there are so many threads like this that u can learn from.. good luck

You may have a weak battery in the roto start as well. That is a new engine with very high compression. If your battery is low, then you will not have enough juice to crank that monster over.
