Hi. My name is Chad, and I'm 16, living in NC. Well, recently I've been browsing stores looking at all sorts of sweet cars, boats, planes...you name it. I've decided that I want to get into this community and stop missing out on all the fun!
I was wondering if you guys could help me out here, by maybe answering a few questions?
Here's some info that might help:
I live in the city, but on a street that isn't very busy. I have a moderate sized backyard. I don't really know of anyplace I could run something that goes 50mph, except the park maybe...
And most importantly, ( ) my favorite car is this:
Subaru WRX Impreza (I love rally cars!)
I really want to build the car myself, because I can only imagine how great it must feel to drive something that you built. I can save up pretty much any money I need (within reason) in a couple months, and seeing that I'm not needing a supercar, thats not a real problem.
Are there any kits that you recommend for a complete beginner?
Websites where I could learn more?
Online stores with good deals?
Thanks for any input.

If you like rally cars, this might not be a bad place to start.

They even have the Subaru Impreza body.

You can also check out the new Kyosho TR-15 rally (www.kyosho.com). It's based on the inferno TR-15. Unfortunately it comes partially assembled (the good news is I recommend tearing it down and reassemble the diffs with more grease). I have a few inferno TR-15s in my garage (the car I race, backup car, and parts car). I also have the HPI super rally nitro (subaru). They're both good. The nice thing about both the kyosho and HPI is they come with good, quality engines (albeit too tame for my racing requirements).
From a suspension durability perspective, I like my inferno's better. I haven't needed to pull out the backup car yet. I've broken a suspension arm here and there - nothing of consequence.
From a flexibility standpoint, I like the HPI better. The super nitro rally can easily (and inexpensively) be converted into the HPI nitro MT (arms, axles, body mount, body),
There are also a slew of aftermarket parts for the HPI
