OS Gemini 160 Twin.
G'day
I fired up my Gemini 160 for the first time today. I have had it now for about six years and this was its first run.
First impressions are very favourable.
1. It started first flick (hand flick) and was very easy to start by hand. It was not at all "cranky".
2. It was quite happy to idle almost immediately though it is still quite rich
3. It swings its 18 x 6 running in prop easily and sounds wonderful.
I did notice that fuel tends to siphon from the tank but I cannot do anything about the position of the tank or the carby. The carby is mounted very low on the engine in the scale position for a Continental engine I think. I will just have to watch this. It does not seem to siphon with the throttle closed. The way the carby is mounted, the fuel simply drains out of the carby and does not flood the engine.
It is currently mounted in a 120 Size Great Planes Sportster and with luck it will have its first flight some time this week. I will try to get the camera and the video camera out and get some material to show here.
Any idea what sort of revs I should expect from the 18 x 6 prop on 10% nitro fuel? Any suggestions for more suitable props for the Sportster?
So far I am really pleased and impressed with this engine.
Cheers

RE: OS Gemini 160 Twin.
To prevent siphoning, have the fuel tubing loop a bit above the fuel tank before it goes to the engine. Then, when you have stopped the engine at the end of a flight, move the throttle to the idle position and hand-flip the propeller backwards. This will put a bit of pressure into the carburetor and "blow" the fuel back to the tank and empty the fuel line. Now, it will not drip fuel while the model is parked.

Hi!
As with any other non -pumped glow engine you have to obey to the "Tank mounting rule"...if not you will have an engine that will not function well.
So set the tank lower!

I run an APC 17-6 on my Ultra Stik and it does great! Very user friendly engine and sounds way cool! If you close the throttle the fuel seems to stay put. I have my tank lined up with the crank centerline and it runs great, inverted too.

Yeah depends on the airframe tho.The 18x6 is on the very big size for an os160 the asp version you mention i have just run in for a mate.Built well and will do anything the os will do.I hope the os serves you well in that airframe mike.

An 18/6 is the perfect prop for this motor. This is the OS FT160 and not the ASP
I ran an 18/6 on my 160 for years

RE: OS Gemini 160 Twin.
As with the siphoning issue, I used a perry ossilating pump and a shut off value to solved this problem. I have three tubes running from the tank. 1. Filling tube. 2. Caburetor tube that runs to the engine. This is connected to a shut off valve and a Perry Oscillating pump. 3 Vent tube. When I am done with flying I plug my vent tube, and then closethe shut off valve. I have never had any problems with siphoning fuel. Hope this helps.
