Laterally balancing OMP 540 Profile
When balancing a profile plane laterally, is the front supported at the propeller shaft or the fuselage nose? Thanks.

To balance a profile, the easiest way I've found is to put a yellow plastic Quik Grip clamp on the fuselage CG, maybe with a little rubber something to improve the grip on the finish, then hang that on a piece of line from overhead.

That is correct. Balancing should be from the fuselage cg point thus the centerline of the fuselage and no the spinner. The spinner will often be offset for proper right thrust.

My Katana GS flies great, I did laterally balance it. A buddy told me I should have balanced it with fuel in it? doesnt sound right to me? When I hover it doesnt want to pull left or right, I'd say I'm ok.

Lateral balance is hard to tell when hovering.
The most accurate way to tell lateral balance and better then trying to do it on the ground is doing walls and parachutes. If they snap out while doing either of these moves it's out of balance. Make sure you go into the moves level and flat. Whichever wing dips or snaps is the heavy side.
I just dialed in my buddy's 80" Edge that way the other day ... worked like a charm.

If you hover with a half tank of fuel then laterally balance with a half tank of fuel. If you hover at a full tank then balance at a full tank. And so forth!
just kidding, could not resist! Obviously as you burn fuel the balance of the plane changes so you have to decide which way is best. A half tank of fuel represents a good average point so I would recommend that approach if you really want to be accurate. Also as stated above, balance using the fuselage.
