Engine Break-in
well peeps i just bought a XXX-NT and i was wondering if anyone had any good tips on the engine break-in this is my first nitro truck all i have had has been electric any help would be well appreciated

Nothing special.
Idle for a coupla minutes.
Run rich for a coupla tanks.
Then start leaning it out but dont run WOT till about 10-15 tanks.
After that your good to go as long as you keep the temperature around 250
ram

What about all that hubub in the TMaxx manual about:
Run 1/4 throttle for 2 seconds.... one tank
Run 1/2 throttle for 3 seconds... one tank
You dont have to do all that?

Engine Break-in
My cousin and I both have the XXX NT and we just used 10% Nitro for the first gallon. The guy from our LHS told us to run about 4 tanks just going around in circles at just above idle then for the next 6 tanks to drive a little faster but to avoid blipping the throttle. We did this and started to lean them out after about 10 tanks. We've had them for just over a month now and they are both running awesome. I think the first few tanks are the most important.

Yea, what prozac said but be sure during the break-in that the engine temps are above 180F so that the sleeve will expand. Do not let it sit and idle with cold engine temps or the sleeve wont expand and your wearing out your new engine. You can run 20% nitro and you should break-in the engine with the nitro percentage you intend to run through it. Dont run full throttle until you have at least 10 break-in tanks run through. Do yourself a favor and IGNORE any advice that tells you to idle an ABC (ringless) engine to break it in. If you understand the engineering being ABC engines you'll know that you must get the piston and cylinders up to about 200-225 and idling won't do that. Find a nice flat spot (parking lot is ok) and start her up and run her with a quick bursts to full throttle from 1/4-1/2 throttle. With each successive tank of fuel after a cooldown increase the burst time at full throttle. After 3-4 tanks, fine tune the needles for good idle, good transition, and a top end setting that is slightly rich and keeps temps not to exceed 250 degrees F.

Im with Homebrewer all the way. Get it hot as quick as possable and let it fully cool between tanks. The one thing my first nitro taught me is that a temp. gauge is priceless.
