Default Classified question...Help!

For those of you who have made a handful of trades in the classifieds, I am a noob to the experience andI just wanttodo a sanity check.

The following is what I left as feedback for a recent trade. I feel like I have been very patient with this person, but maybe I am mistaken.Maybe trades like this just take this long.Is it just normal that if someone asks for me to ship first that they will take a couple of weeks to ship their item back to me?

At the time of the sale I had no rating, so I agreed to send my item out first. The trade was for my T-Maxx with over $1500 in upgrades, which receipts for everything was provided, for his Mini LST with a claimed $400 in upgrades. He would provide no documentation because none was available. It took me 2 or 3 days to get everything boxed up and shipped, during which I received no less than 2 email a day from the buyer wanting to know if it had shipped yet. When he received the truck immediately he started complaining that the truck was dirty and that I didn’t include a battery charger for the Nimh that I threw in on the deal instead of making him go out and buy his own batteries. He now want me to send him a check so he could go out and buy a charger. I said that I would send him a basic charger just to make the deal happen and he insisted on buying one of his own. In the mean time he still hadn’t sent out his car.The trade was for his $600 car for my $1500 truck. It has been 2 weeks now since I sent out my truck and he still hasn’t sent out his car.As of today, he said that he may send it out today, or he may not.We shall see.

What should I do?

Why do a trade where you are loosing $900 in the first place? And I think he's in the wrong because you never said you would send a charger so he shouldn't be mad that he didn't receive one. I don't really know what you should do as I don't have any experience with trading.

Sounds like you have been patient enough. I'd be at the point now of telling him he had better send one car or the other to you, immediately. If you sent yours through the US mail, this would be mail fraud. You could call the police in his town, they probably can't do anything other than maybe call him. Are you a minor? is he? if either is that affects the legality of the deal too. If he is a minor you could tell his parents - sounds lame, but would probably work. How far away is he, you could pay him a visit, that worked for me once. Also you can report him to the forum that you sold/traded on - was it this one? They have seen it before and may have some tips for closing the deal for you. You might be able to file a theft claim in your home town, he would be required to show up in court, which he probably would not. When they rule in your favor you can file a judgment against him which may not get you your car right away but he will not be able to finance a house with that on his credit. In reality if you did file any claim he would probably send you something right away. You have to wonder what he may send at this point. One other question for you, did you send the car insured and if so , for how much? That gives you a base dollar amount to claim for, backed up by your receipts.

Good luck, let us know what happens.

All great advice Kistner. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Another 6 days have gone by and he still has not shipped either car.
I have sent him several messages stating that I am no longer interested in a trade and to just send my truck back. He doesn't respond.
I am not a minor, but I have no idea weather he is or not. I have tried doing searches for a phone number but I have had no luck.
He sent me an email on Sunday stating that he believes I sent him an airplane radio because it says airtronics or something on the side of it.
I informed him that plane radios don't have a steering wheel (duh). He then claims the radio must be bad and I need to either send him a new one or a check so that he can buy one.
I stated that I will do neither and he can just send my truck back if he is not happy. And of course, I got no response.
I am filing a complaint with RCUniverse today.

Oh and 1ne8ighty2wo, the reason that I did the trade even though I had more invested is because I took the truck in on another trade and found that I have no interest in nitro.A trade for something that I would use made more sense than letting it sit on a shelf.Selling anything for cash right now is next to impossible unless you give it away.

That really sucks, from the sounds of it I would guess you are dealing with a kid who doesn't know anything. If I were you I would take a road trip and go get it personally (how far is he away from you).

Oh, don't think it hasn't crossed my mind, I have even map quested it out.. Unfortunately he is in Florida and I am in Chicago.
At times I think he might be a kid, but some of his emails were written more like an adult put them together.
Either way he is even more clueless about nitro than I am. One of his first complaints was that something must be missing because there is a wire that is coming out of the battery box that isn't plugged into anything. I was nice enough to let him know that it was used to charge the RX battery. That's when he got into the whole thing about why didn't I send him a charger than.

Find his phone number since you have his address. Tell him that you are reporting him to the police. Most likely it is a kid who doesn't have the money for a charger. By the way, your trade doesn't make sense man. Upgraded Maxx for a Mini LST2? Why?

I have tried to get the phone number, it must be an unlited number because it doesn't come up in any of the searches.
Maybe you can have better luck, give it a try.

Dagan McElroy
5080 Hanover Lane
Lakeland,FL 33813

The reason that I did the trade even though I had more invested is because I took the truck in on another trade and found that I have no interest in nitro.A trade for something that I would use made more sense than letting it sit on a shelf.Selling anything for cash right now is next to impossible unless you give it away.
I had the thing listed for a month with no interest except this guy for a trade.

should have parted it out on ebay whole trucks generally don't go for as much as the individual parts will.

if you look under Championship Game Starting Lineups, you will see the name and when you click on the picture, this is the guy:

Wow, nice finding.
And definitely don't send him anything else. He's just trying to play you as a fool. I think you should tell him that what he's doing is illegal and what he's trying to do it a federal offense because it's inter-state. (I'm not 100% sure if this is true or not, but I would tell him this to sort of scare him a little, even if you're not planning on doing it at all)

Very nice find samguan, I hadn't seen that one before.

I sent him another email today stating I was going to call the police and register a complaint with RCUniverse if it didn't get shipped today and send me the tracking number.
He then writes back "I'm at work now when I get home I'll give It to you. I have 4 packages that are sitting at my door step that the postal office is suppose to pick up today or even tomorrow and one of those packages are yours".
This happens to be the second time he has claimed that he has left it out for the postman. The first time he did it supposidly the postman didn't see it on the porch and never picked it up.

it is most definitely a residential address, I think the street names or numbers must have changed down there. I see a beef o bradys come up, but if you look up beef o bradys they have a new address. if you look in polk county records (I'm in real estate, know all the tricks) it is just a residential address owned by a guy that owns several properties. it appears that the mcelroys rent. I found the owners phone number if you want it, but I don't think it is theirs. of course depending on your determination the landlord might give you the phone number

Well as with everyone else, I'm sorry about your loss. I had my first sketchy trade recently but it all worked out in the end. Since I own a computer business, if you need help finding this clown let me know and I'll see what I can do. I live in Florida and I understand the person lives in FL too. Let me know how you plan to proceed with this and I'll help as much as I can. (within reason)

Wish you the best of luck recovering anything from this deal. When Revo's first came out, I had to have one. It was winter (in northern Alaska) and it was NIB. I seen an ad for a 1/5 traxxas big buggy and made a trade. I sent it priority and he gave me bad tracking numbers and said the same thing: "I left it on the doorstep for the postman" Come to find out after an admin from here (rcu) was very helpful, that this guy had got two revo's and a Tmaxx before they caught him.
It is really sad that a few bad apples have to make us all leary of each other until we get our stuff. Since then everyone I have dealt with on here and wattflyer (sister site) have been great people. I really hope you find some resolve in this matter. Take care, Jay
