Default PMP Eurofighter canards

Hi Folks
I am looking for some advice.
Has anyone built a PMP Typhoon ( Eurofighter) if so how did you do the canards. Try as I might I cannot get the canards securely fitted to my satisfaction and I am hoping someone else has had the same problem and has a fix that will help me.

Default PMP Eurofighter canards

Hello Folks
Looking for some help here as I am STUCK.
I know this is a fairly old kit( 4 years since it was on the market) but surely I was not the only one who was dumb enough to buy one!

I dealt his kits here in the states for a bit. I know the canards on the gripen were not operational. Perhaps Dick could chime in but I think this was from Mike Lacy's kit? I will see if I have an email address or some other resource for you.

I believe that most of the PMP jets are now sold by Pete Powell of PJP jets:

http://www.pjpjets.co.uk/

perhaps he could help.

Default PMP Eurofighter canards

Hi Folks
To the best of my information PJP jets are no longer trading. Also they did not have the moulds or any of the rights to the Eurofighter.
I have already tried them as I have an incomplete kit( my fault for not doing a contents check) and I am missing a section of the exhaust ducting.
Got no where and then i found out by a different source they had ceased trading.
I have tried doing it the way the kit's plans suggests but I dont think it is any where near strong enough( made a test piece and destructively tested it) so I am looking for suggestions.

Hi
Already spoke to them.
The Eurofighter they sell is not the Mike Lacy one and is smaller and of a different construction.

Hi
thousand apologies I got a bit mixed up.
PJP are NOT of business. So if I have caused any panic I apoligies.
However it still leaves me with a pair of canards I have zero confidence in.

Default Eurofighter/Gripen

Mike,

I know this seem alittle silly especially for the Eurofighter, but because you have zero confidence in the canards ( moveable), why not make them fixed in the netural position for the Eurofighter.

Reason is i fly the PMP Gripen ( see gallery), and the canards are fixed, Althought it would be nice to have them movable, and i have looked into the option, but from what i have been told, they dont make that much of a difference if they where moveable, only in slow flight/landing would they have a benefit.

The point aleast there not going to fall of in flight, or make the EF unstable. Just an Option....

patf

Quick Q, did you or know any one who flew the PMP Gripen with elevons ?

Thanks

Robert

nope, the one framed up in the office here has fixed canards. paul felt they were not really necessary, and as you stated did not really have that great of an affect on flight. I think rigging them might be a bit of an issue, as they are so thin, there is not much meat to adhere to. I know KW's was clocked at 195 in the old days, probably one more reason to fix them and go on.

Default PMP Eurofighter canards

Hi folks
Thanks for all taking the time to reply to my problem.
I have learned two points from this thread.
1) I appear to be the only one who has this plane
2) the principal advice seems to be make the canards fixed.

I would be tempeted to do this but as I am a bit of a stick stirer I still want to make them movable so I can explore the " bl**dy H**L corner of the envelope.

It will be my fist DF so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it goes okay.

Anyway thanks for everyones help

if you make them functional see if you can get info on the euro sport's setup. do the math and find the proper pivot point and mass balance them.

if this is your first though, you might start with them fixed then go functional. they are a bit tricky to keep from fluttering. I think that is the main reason they were not done on the gripen, as quick as it was they would be tough to get right and not cause flutter issues.

Hi All,

mikehannah, did you get your plane working? I am thinking of buying a PJP Jets Eurofighter model, 60' long, and will like to know if yours is working correctly now.

[sm=sunsmiley.gif]m Hello Pat, how are you? I have built 3 Gripens as well, all with moving Canards. You are right, it does not need them but it adds som efun to slow flying.

Hi there
I am the person who started this thread.
Basically I have the original Eurofighter kit which i bought many years ago.
This is my First DF by the way.
I decided to fit the all moving canards however try as I might I cannot come up with a method of securing the canard to the pivot wire in any manner I have any confidence in.
I have tried following the method used in the plans and I have zero confidence in it.
I have put the kit aside for the moment as I was getting sick of it however if someone can tell me where i am going wrong I will give it a go.

Mike
ps if you have the section of ducting that goes between the bifurcated tail pipes and the fan and are willing to part with it for some hard cash you will make my day.

Mike,

How does the plan show the canard being mounted to the pivot wire? I have a PJP Grippen that I'd like to make with moving canards, so I'm curious as to how they suggest you do it for the Eurofighter.
