Default Ultra Flash Question

To all ultra flash owners out there, what kind of fuel connector do you use for the wing tanks? My concern is the multiple connect and disconnection of wing will someday cause an air leak that would shorten my flight time. Any concern about this, or its no biggie.

Thanks

No biggie, its in suction, and a few air bubbles will be dissipated in the main tank. Fuel leak on filling may be a concern. Use the stiff Tigon type fuel line with Festo, and give a little tug to set the seal and it should be good. Worried still? Then cut 1/4 inch off the end before pushing it into Festo when you see some narrowing develop.

This might be interesting to see how many various ideas we can get out of this.

I too have the 6mm Festo ball valve fitted.. Just be sure not to use it with Tygon tube. Only the original Festo 6mm Tubing. It's no way near as flex as Tygon, but its the only way to ensure a solid seal each time. I also change mine from time to time as you can see the marks where the claws inside the connector grab onto the tubing. Not sure how necessary this is, but it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside

Thanks guys for your speedy responces I think Airforce setup will work for me simply because I can close off the main tank from leaking during transportation.

Once again Thanks

On my Classic Flash I did almost the same as Ali with one slight change. Instead of repeatedly plugging/removing the tube from the ball valve I added the extra part in the picture below. I figured that this would be less likely to wear and, if it did, I could change it in seconds without having to cut or change the tube.

To stop leaks during transportation I used a Festo cap over the end of the part below and, as belt and braces, put a plug in end of the (closed) ball valve.

From a newbie in jets: I understand that Festos should be avoided in lines under suction. I like both ball valve ideas (i.e. with or without siclick33's part), but they all involve Festos in a suction line. Is my understanding about not using Festos in suction lines incorrect?

Thank you in advance,

My company is actually a distributor for Festo and I too thought that push in fittings were not good under vacuum and have always wondered why some engine manufacturers supply push in fittings with their pumps for the suction side.

The other day I looked at the data sheet for push ins and found that they are suitable for vacuum down to -0.95 bar, absolute vacuum is -1.013 bar!

If all else fails read the instructions!

Rich,

Interesting option from US Plastic. It seems that these are not offered in the metric system, though. What size do you use for 6mm and 4mm lines?

Thank you,

I have never had a problem with Festos under vacuum when using Festo tubing.

I made my wing tank the smoke tank. I used the conformal tanks for fuel.

Thank guys very good information. This might be a dumb question about the rudder but where do you measure the throws (top or bottom).

You can measure the top or botom, doesn't matter as long as it's the MAX
I've been using the original supplied connector for the tanks for four years with no problems. For transport I insert a short plugged piece of line.

Question for flash gurus, I notice on the Carf website there are saddle tanks available. What sort of capacity do they add in fuel?
Thanx

The tanks are 900ml each. In total, with both saddle tanks, it allows you to carry and extra 800ml over the standard wing tank set up. I have fitted them to my UF - bit off a ball ache but ultimately allows you to carry more fuel = longer flight times or capacity for smoke.

I suppose that the saddle tanks prevent the use of a full bypass - am I correct?

Thanks up front,

no they require trimming of the lip on the bypass but they fit snug between it and the side of the fuselage, you need to check/trim the wing bolts or they'll punch through them!!!
