Default 1/8 scale tamiya grasshopper tuneup

Ok try not to laugh to hard here but awile back i got some scavenged rc parts at a yard sale so i have some miselanius parts and a tamiya grasshopper the buggy is basicly just the body and gear box no radio no esc and no motor its got the servo for the steering tho ^^ so anyways ive orderd a few parts for it including a 17t steel pinion and an hpi 15t 540 motor and out of the miselanius parts i found a msc (manual speed controller) and some recievers so the only thing left to get is a transmitter now my buddy has a 1/10 scale nos buggy i told him when mines finished id race him lol how bad u think im gona get wooped if my buggy works right at all

tamiya uses metric pinions, you'll probably need a different one.
The 15t motor may just melt the msc after a bit.
Grasshopper is 1/10 scale.
he will whoop you. probably a lot.

I think you can beat him with your Grasshopper, but not with that setup. Depends on what kind of racing you intend on doing too. In a drag race with a brushless you could probably beat him, but on a track course that requires good handling you're at a disadvantage.

17tooth will grind a bit, 18 tooth is what you reelly need unless you are using an adjustable motor mount.

the gearbox has an adjustable motor mount and it will be a street and since the tires on mine are worn it will run perfect on the road where as my buddys nos has offroad tires and that would make a nice diffrence bout the racing too so what kinda oil should i put in my gearbox?
