Default A question for all you Nitro people out there.....

Ive been into RC for more than 30+ years, seen them come and go, seen them evolve, owned and still own a lot of them but mainly electric but I do have a few nitro.

My question is why does the exhaust on most nitros exits at the side on one of the tires? Ive never understood that, one tire always gets fouled.

Ive seen some exhaust that is routed out the rear like on my baja but thats a gasser, I guess its not popular on a nitro.

I honestly don't know for sure. But what I think is it's purely design and space saving based. [&:]

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in.

its the smoothest way to route the exhaust, a simple fix is a silicone stinger extender and problem fixed.

Tuned pipes are long, the only space for them is along side the car.

Some old Kyoshos and Traxxas cars had the exhaust at the back, but they had mufflers.

A Traxxas Stampede with the original dual stinger muffler and baffles is incredibly quiet.

I was thinking the same thing about the length being an issue but I was not totally sure.

I have an old Kyosho Landmax and it has a rear exhaust, but if I remember correctly I think I purchased it as an option part........

There is the MIP 360 rear exhaust kit that I had for my RC10GT and my X-Factor has stock rear exhaust too.

But you are correct, most of nitros I have, have a side exhaust.

I read somewhere on here, awhile back, that rear exhausts on nitros have can have some back pressure issues. I have never owned/driven a nitro RC with rear exhaust so I can't speak from experience, though.

The Associated Monster GT trucks come with a rear exhaust that works fine. The traxxas revo and stampede also have a rear exhaust. Im sure there are others as well.

My Savage .25 has about 13 gallons on it now. I have ran the stock pipe with the stock stinger (no extensions/deflectors) the whole time and you can tell the back wheel on that side isnt shiny like the rest of the wheels still are. I dont really like it, but im not sure im real fond of the exhaust deflectors either.

13 gal? Nice, my NRustler had about that much before its .15 decided to take a back seat on life. I ended up adding a 3.3 as part of its rebuild but I have yet to run it.

Tamiya Nitro Thunder has a rear exhaust, its pretty cool, every thing stays nice and clean. The exhaust comes out the back of the engine in an S-bend and exits just beneath the rear wing/centre.
