More power to the front tires???
Hi there.
Ihave a 4.6 MGT. Only had it about a week now so im still going thru and tuning everything. But last night i was messing around and only the front tires were spinning. Backs wernt doing anything.
SO today i took everything apart. Pulled apart the rear Diff, checkes all the pins shafts even pulled out the transmision but didnt open it.
Saw nother wrong at all. So i put it together and ran it.
The rear tires are getting power but they are doiminated by the front tires.
Iboot it and again the front tires spin and thats all.
Ilifted the front off the ground and gave it gas, the back did push but not nearly as strong.
Whats going on?

does it have a center diff? if so, it might have busted or leaked out all the diff fluid, for better 4WD operation use VERY thick diff fluid in the center.
also, check your outdrives from your center diff to the rear diff, also check your rear wheel hubs for cracking.

Idont believe it has a center dif. Rear diff was full of grease, not oil
Ichecked all the hubs,rims,dog bones.

RE: More power to the front tires???
everything seems intact.
started truck up and lifted front end off ground. Rear tires are working, just some how over powered by the front.
Mabey diff oil or traction?
I am stumped. Ican drop it off at the LHS but i dont wanna pay for something if its a stupid fix and i can do it myself.

Right, for example my Slash 4X4 is running 20k wt in the front, 100k wt in the center and 10k wt in the rear

I say crack open the transmission. You said you pulled it out, but didn't open it. Check it out.
Also, with the tranny out, make sure the rear spins freely (spin the center driveshaft to the rear by hand?)

RE: More power to the front tires???
The MGT does not have a center diff.
I'd set the front down to hold the wheels from turning and spin the rears and see where the driveline stops rotating.
If it moves all the way to the trans, make sure the shaft going into the trans is turning also.
With the wheels getting at least some power it really sounds like a broken pin to me.
Haven't been into my trans yet, but here's the instructions.

RE: More power to the front tires???
Had the tranny apart.
Spins free, alittle bit of metal filings inside but noting bad. Cleaned it out and put it together.
No grease belongs in there right? I did put a dab of white litium grease on the gear.
Put it together and started it up again with the same problems.
Once i picked up the front end and i didnt think i got any power fron the rear wheels then the second time i did but not much.
Im wondering if the read diff isnt sitting all the way. There wasnt any wear in it, but i just read a post where it says the diffs should be shimmed because they wont make full contact.

RE: More power to the front tires???
Ok i got the rear working. Ihad to add a shim to the rear diff, It was a litlle worn and wasnt always grabbing.
Now i need to work on the shifting, It still only shifts at 1/2-3/4 power. Full power it stays in 1st gear. Also think it shifts real early. Only about 15' from take off, where my buddys revo is about 30' and it seems to get more speed that way .
