Axe 400 Piro Rate
Hey guys I noticed that my nose-right piro rate is ridiculously slow on my Axe 400 in normal flight (not idle-up). I've tried adjusting the endpoints and my expo, but I can't seem to get to a setting that'll speed things up. As for in 3D mode, I don't know if it's any faster, because I don't often fly in idle-up. Has anyone else had this problem? I would appreciate if someone could help me fix this.

RE: Axe 400 Piro Rate
In case anyone else has this problem, I thought I would post the solution. The issue is with the gyro. If you speed up the right piro rate then you will want your left piro to match. When you make the adjustments, you will notice that the helicopter will properly execute the right piro; however the left piro will always spin out of control. The stock gyro is defective; there's no way around it; get a better gyro. Oh and your EPA will determine your piro rate, by the way.

RE: Axe 400 Piro Rate
I have been fighting this problem since I bought my AXE 400 last year... I thought I was doing something wrong... I have fought with the Tail settings since the very first flight...
It does exaclty what you said... Every time I add the least little bit of nose left tail rotor it spins like a full 3-5 Piros. It is impossible to fly unless you want to do nothing but hover.... It has frustrated me to death.. I have done everything to try and solve this problem.
Is it a defective Gyro, or is there actually a way to adjust the Gyro to prevent this from happening? I am just wondering because not everyone is having this problem..... Is there any way to get a replacement Gyro from Helimax?
Please help...

RE: Axe 400 Piro Rate
Well the only way that I have found to dampen this effect is to slow
down your piro rate (both left and right). You'll have to turn down your
dual rates and EXPO. EPA doesn't matter as much, but probably shouldn't
go over 70 in either direction. The problem won't go away completely, but
it will be much less frequent. The only major downside is that your
helicopter will become a very slow turner. As far as I know, this is a
pervasive manufacturing defect. Helimax sent me a replacement gyro that
behaved in the same manner. I suspect this gyro works fine with motor-
driven tails, but is awful with the belt and gear-driven tails.
If you live in a warm weather area, I can recommend the SKY500 gyro by
Skyartec. The gyro holds really well and is equally proportional in both
directions. The only downside is that it takes a really long time (approx.
10 min) to center in cold weather. This means that if you go flying in 35
degree weather you can use the trims to center the gyro, but you'll have
to keep trimming during flight, because the center will constantly drift
until your gyro acclimates to the temperature. The best way to get
around that is to let the heli sit for about 10 min before you plug it in.
There are better gyros out there, but this one is under $50, so that's why
I recommend it.
