Go Fly a Kite
Anyone ever tried to get a kite in the air by letting their RC do the running? I kind of want to try it for grins, but don't want to f up my RC (the one I am still trying to pick out).

RE: Go Fly a Kite
I doubt that you'd have much luck getting the kite airborne. The pulling point is just too low to the ground. Think about it, when you run with a kite you hold the string very high to get the kite off the ground. An rc is, what, 8" off the ground. Not high enough unless you just get lucky. And if you do get lucky then what 378 said.

Even if you got it in the air before handing it off to the rc, doesn't a kite need a bit of input from the ground to keep it pointing the way you want it? With the rc, you might struggle just to keep it from nosing over and falling to the ground. You better be good at multitasking.

RE: Go Fly a Kite
I used to tow up a glider by hand. It was just an old Eldon stryrofoam glider, but I taped a hook to the bottom and had a paperclip on the end of the string. Once airborne, I would stop running and the paperclip would fall off the hook and I watched the majestic flight of my glider as it circled around and around and finally made a perfect landing in the only tree in the area, about 25 feet up.
Now, in that case, an RC could have done what I did (not much wind either), and got the glider airborne.
A kite is a different story as the string stays attached. Moving the RC left and right and back and forth to help keep the kite up might be quite a challenge.
