So who will be building a Ziroli Beech Staggerwing?
I saw an unfinished prototype at the WRAM show at the Ziroli booth. There was a Robart retract kit developed for it as well. The plans will be available in a few months as well as several kit cutters kits for the Ziroli plans.
That is going to be one beautiful classic airplane model.

Is anyone here planning on building one?

After waiting for 2 years or so a few more months will not hurt. I will be building one this year for my big bird project. IMHO you can't go wrong with any Ziroli design

I visited his web site and the spects are there but he says not til next year. The question was that written last year or this year? I too will wait for it. I wish it were a little smaller so I could use my saito 300 but I guess I will have to use a stinky gaser. Oh well!!

I got a demo of the Robart retracts for this plane from Nick Sr. at the WRAM. They were the coolest retracts that I've ever seen. Had a realistic 8 second movement time. Used a jackscrew mech. It was awsome!

The real one had a chain drive but I still want to know when we will see the plans. The Byron had a levered retract which was hard to keep working. I liked the way it flew and hope this one will be as good.

The specs are on the Ziroli web site. Going by memory, it is 88" w/s, 72" long, 30-35# and recomended for a 3.7 cu. in. engine minimum (G62). I checked Bob Banka's site and he has 48 different photo paaks with what ever color combination you could desire.
The when is a little more difficult. The Ziroli site says 'it is coming along slowly, probably next year.' That doesn't sound so good, but I think it was written in '02. Maybe it will be coming out soon.
Mouth watering yet?

I'll have a little more information on Nick's Beech Staggerwing in the next issue of the Warbird Newsletter. Should be out in a few weeks.

When will it be available?
So does anyone have any reliable information on when the plans will be available to buy? I have a lot to build still, but it never hurts to know when you will be able to drool over a set of plans. The Staggerwing is the definition of a classic aircraft.
Did anyone else happen to read on the forums at the Ziroli site something about a Ziroli Stearman that folded a wing and killed a spectator at a fly in up in PA? I seriously doubt there is any truth to this since I haven't heard any other info about it anywhere. Anyone know what the story is on this?

Yes I did, Vought, and I agree with you. I will not believe it until I see independent verification. I also noticed a bit of antagonism on the site, strange and inappropriate in my view.

So who will be building a Ziroli Beech Staggerwing?
Hi,
I talked to Nick at the WRAM show about the Staggerwing. He was hoping to get it done in time for Top Gun, but that's not going to happen. He has other things going on right now and works on it when he can, but he told me me he gets burned out and has to take a break every so often. For those of you that saw the prototype, there's a lot of building to do, and Nick still has a ways to go to get it finished. He said it will be flying, hopefully, by the end of spring, beginning of summer, but like all things, there's no guarantee. His plans usually come out several months after the prototype is flown and trimmed out.
For those of you that missed it at the WRAM show he'll have it at Toledo.
I'm certainly not speaking for Nick but I would guess around the end of summer.
Regards,
Jon

I will be cutting kits for the Staggerwing, but Nick has been "almost ready to release" these plans for years. I would LOVE to see them come out this spring or summer!
