E-bay bullcrapp
recently someone at our field informed me that the people running one of our local hobby shops were jacking bid's on models they were selling on E-bay...I just snagged a model on e-bay NIB as I have before...toward the end of the bidding the price took a pretty good last minute jump on a three way bid (dutch)...I wanna say this...Anybody out here or there (e-bay) jacking bids is a LOW LIFE...and if that's you...may your airplane's crash crash crash...

It could also be a case of e-bay sniping. There is software that allows you to bid only in the last 30 seconds with your maximum bid or the highest bid, whichever is less. This software is endorsed by e-bay and keeps bids low. Even if you're not at the computer at the end of the auction, the software will do the work for you. I have won alot of very nice things at a very reasonable price using this method. Now I totally agree, if it was the owner jacking up his own product... that's just dead wrong. Check the bid history to see if you can find any clues. I have included a link to the software I was describing.

That's called a "ringer" where I'm from, some of the less honest auctioneer's have them in the crowd to "up the prices to where they should be". Besides the fact that it's illegal, if a crowd finds out there is one there, they usually get eaten before the auctioneer gives the rest of the stuff away.

Lot of sniping going on. I use it any more if I want something and just put in my highest price and let the snipe program do the work. Then you don't have people raising on you at the last minute. They don't know your in there till the last minute. Kind of hokey, but when I didn't use it, the price jumped at the end all the time. Now it doesn't and I get a lot of auctions at good prices. Try it if you don't want to see the price jumping a ton. Otherwise, they will have people raising the prices. Its kind of a pain to deal with.

RE: E-bay bullcrapp
i know a bumper. sniping sucks coz you think it's one price and you'll accept it at that price seeing as it's SH and unknown, then all of a sudden it jumps and you have no time to think if that price is accetable.
i've left high bids ( a few quid over current price on cheaper things ) and still loose it. at least some moron paid the most they wanted to.

I bid what it is worth to me and go on about my business. Why should I let someone else decide what I'm willing to pay for something? Actually, I already have stuff I'll never use, and the person who outbids me is probably doing me a favor

It's hilarious watching people "win" an item on ebay.
True story.
My friend Matt one day right after cross-country practice had bid on a 20 or 22" monitor for his computer. He was so excited to get it (it was a $700 monitor for his custom built computer) and when he got home he wanted to check up on the item. He turns on his 5 year old laptop that took him like 5 minutes to turn on, lol, logs on to aol takes another few minutes. Then finally gets to check up on his ad, HE WAS OUTBID by like $20 or something small, so he goes to up the bid (there is 3 MINUTES LEFT) he raises to his price and he clicks the button to submit or whatever, and the computer FREEZES right then LOL. He freaked out and ran across the hall and started up his other desktop computer, racing against 3 minutes. However, as we later heard down the hall fu%&*& #%$^ son of a $^^*, he ran out of time[sm=lol.gif]. Funniest thing I ever saw.

I have bought 3 Dell computers in the last 2 months on ebay for half what you pay at dell for the same thing. You have to watch and snipe a lot. Don't get most, but the ones you do! Top of the line sys with a flat panel monitor for $600. Sweet!!!!

RE: E-bay bullcrapp
Yeah, I too have a major problem with "winning" on e-bay. When I win something, I don't expect it to cost me money---when I get something from e-bay, it costs me. That ain't "winning". Aside from that personal problem with the word, I buy a lot from e-bay and on anything that costs anything at all, I use a sniping program. I decide what it's worth to me, enter that amount in the snipe program, and walk away. The program bids for me with only six seconds left in the auction. I have "won" quite a bit of junk this way. For instance, I bid on a LOT of monokote in colors that I want and I NEVER pay over seven dollars for a roll of it---got quite a collection of Monokote at $7.00 or less per roll. Cool, huh?

Oh geeeeeeeeeze,
We've gone technical..... Ok Ok Ok Yes, if you have the highest bid of the auction it will cost you money and usually an inflated shipping and handling cost to aquire the product. However when I use the term "Won" in association with e-bay, "TECHNICALLY" I'm right that I have "WON" the auction and the right to purchase the product. So there!

RE: E-bay bullcrapp
A friend of mine in IA had been looking for years for a long out of production kit. I told another friend here in Phoenix about it and he said he would keep and eye out for one. Well, a few weeks passed and my IA friend called up all bent out of shape. Seems like he had the high bid on one of the kits he had been looking for and someone outbid him at the last seconds of the auction. After trying to console him a few minutes, I told him I would call him right back. I called my friend in Phoenix, asked him what he was doing? He was all excited and told me how he had just bought the kit on ebay for my friend. YUP! I asked him if he knew who he outbid to get the kit? My friend in IA!!!
Well, my freind in IA had to end up paying just a little more for the kit than he had planned on...
What's the odds?

Yes, I have seen that as well. People will put an item which you think is an awesome deal and completely screw you on the shipping. Thankfully I still don't use Ebay because I don't collect a lot of stuff. However I was looking at a mini Ipod for snowboarding or something. They cost $250 new from Apple or best buy. There was a guy selling about 6 of them for $150 a piece new in box. Turns out shipping was $100

If they clearly state the shipping cost, it is not a scam. However, you can only base a good deal on total price including shipping. I purchased a charger from a dealer several months back at an inflated shipping cost, but his selling price was much less than others selling the same item. It still cost less from him.
Part of "playing the e-bay game" is checking all those things. If a seller does not show his shipping price, e-mail for a quote. If they wont let you know, then pass on the item.
E-bay has some good points, and some bad. So far it has been extremley good for me, so my number may be up soon[].
I generally will shop E-bay first for most big ticket items or hard to find stuff. Sometimes I get lucky.

RE: E-bay bullcrapp
don't the sellers pay e-bay for the finshed total of a auction, they don't have to pay a % of the postage, so they pay less to sell the item??
cheats.
cheats.

you can say its not a scam all you want. It IS a scam for people who are unable to think things thru, are excited about the great price and do not notice the end result. There are lots of people like that in this world and they are being taken advantage of. Of coarse I quess its no one responsibility to protect stupid people from themselves.
