P-38 Identification
Hi all,
I have just been given a P-38 that has been built and glassed and need to see if I can get an ID on the manufacturer.
I was told it's from a Royal kit, but I'm not sure that is quite right.
The plane is all built if balsa and ply with a foam wing and looks to be pretty close to scale in its outline.
It has a 72" wing span and as of now the tail booms slide onto the wing from each tip and the pilots gondola is attached to the center section of the one piece wing.
There are blue ink printed parts numbers on the balsa and ply parts.
I'll try and get a couple pictures up later. Does this plane sound familiar at all to any twin builders?
Thanks.

Sounds indeed like the Royal P-38. They used a one piece wing, plug-in booms, and the wing span sounds like theirs. The thing is, their wing was build up, unless someone cut cores for it. If it seems to weigh about 50lbs, it is definitely Royal. Give us a picture if you can.

OK then,
It's a Royal kit but with a foam wing subbed in to replace the built up wing?
Or was there another 38 available like this from a different kit manufacturer?
Yes the tail does plug in with square hardwood.
At this time it weighs 7.25 lbs.
I am guessing it would come in between 10 and 12 lbs ready to fly.
I just need to find out where to start looking for instructions to determine how best to locate the nacelles and how to setup the elevator and rudder control system.
I have a few ideas as to how I might do this. It's just ni9ce to have instructions to deviate from.

OK. These guys have all the parts you need I think. http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/ I know they have a lot of after market fiberglass parts for this ship. I'm going to be finishing one of these myself. It is almost as far along as yours. I'll be cutting off most of the carvings and cowls and replacing with after market stuff to get the weight down. That was the tuff thing about the Royal. Too heavy.
