best place to ask http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/foru...smode_1/tt.htm
Depends on what you want it for, and the budget (and does the budget include batteries)
if your on the street or dirt, the rustler or bandit are good
if you want to go in grass there not so good and the stampede is better
If you want to race at a track theres the traxxas slash for $225 which most tracks have a SC class now seeing its hot. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXUVY4**&P=ML
HPI Blitz I hear is good costs $194 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXZBZ4**&P=ML
or you could look for a used one on ebay to save some cash and buy some good batteries and a charger

You can't go wrong with an XL-5 as a first hobby grade model. Theyre decent performers out of the box and have tons of parts support at pretty much any store. Plus the newer models all have brushless ready transmissions. Other good entry level options that come to mind: Losi Desert Truck, Losi Strike, HPI Blitz, HPI Wheely King, and the Duratrax Evader series. That's assuming you want electric, if you want nitro check out the Losi Ten-T, HPI Nitro Monster King, or the larger T-maxx, Savage, Etc.
