stick with the side one, its how the chassis is designed and thats what gives it optimal performance, not only the enigne but the car operating as a whole make a custom one or buy two of them and join them together, get creative with it, a buddy of mine got a chunk of what bouning balls are made of and chisseled one for himself to prevent that from happening and it looks great it has a sort of five shape and it is easily removable and works great, better than mine too which is just the stock rubber one on my revo so if u cant find it make it!

well there aren't any good rear mount exhaust pipes. TSAIS is the best from what i've seen and it still has it's problems. Mostly tune-related and not being able to hold or find a good tune. I would stick with a side pipe. Are you running the stock chassis? Some side pipes can fit through the hole in the stock chassis in front of the exhaust so that the exhaust goes under the truck.

no matter what you do your gonna get exhaust goo somewhere.....I just got used to cleaning it up....those deflectors work to a certain extent if you point it straight down at the ground but you still end up with it on the side of the truck or the rear right wheel....

If gunk is a problem try running blue thunder hp8. I have barely anything on my wheels and nothing on the chassis. And a rear pipe can work very well but the tuning is all whacked out and when the engine gets hot you have to shut it down. You could make a custom header and ues a revo rear pipe.

Why not check out a different header. I have a O.S .15CV-R on my T-Maxx. It has a curved header that ponits the stinger pipe out the back. So far it has run great and sounds awesome.
