Default Ticking out my Nitro RS 4

I am rebuilding a Nitro RS4 with the 1HG parts. I have just started tearing things down and I have a couple of questions for all you RC experts out there...

1. What to clean the engin up with? Will good old carb cleaner work?

2. Do you know of anybody that sells the puple counter sunk screws that will fit nicly into the counter sunk holes on the bottom of the new chassis?

3. Do any of you know of any upgrade top plates. 1HG does not make an upgrade for the top plate, just the bottom pan part.

I am just tricking this car up, not so much to race, but to run time trials with and just to put on the mantle and have looking good. I even have the alum rims for the whiles, sweet stuff, but I want to do it right, a lead on the screws would ROCK!

Thanks,
Bill

PS. I will upload some pictures to this post as I go to show the progress as I go along... should be fun.

Default Tried and proven...

Here are some pictures of the chassis with engine installed etc. before I started tearing it down. It's a bit dirty, but stock this car has won a LOT of races, but the tracks where pretty small with no really long straight aways. The longest was maybe 75 feet, the rest was just driven the course. When I get done it should be a LOT faster and should handle a lot better....

Default The new chassis

Here is the new chassis with the old engine mounts cleaned up and mounted, I am waiting on the upgrade parts for both the major parts shown here. Those are a set of heatsinked engine mounts and new alum pulley mounts. I will put pictures of those in my gallery.

Default Cost so far...

This project started back in 2000. My wife bought me the HG4S upgrade for Christmas. That is the complete kit with all the aluminum parts that HG makes for the RS4 and RS4 2 all in one kit.

Here are the costs so far. This is a wake up call for me too...

$350.00 HG4S kit
$30.00 Bearings so far (buying sizes needed, 9 so far)
$15.00 Aluminum screws (buying as needed from LHS)
$60.00 Alloy wheels = $30.00 per pair
$28.00 Aluminum pulley mount
$45.00 Heatsinked engine mounts
---------------------------------------------
$528 TOTAL (Upgrades alone)

Default Cleaning the engine

Oven cleaner works on the engine. Don't get it on the anodized parts, oven cleaner will eat it for dinner.:rainfro:
