Strut covers for the Lightning
Im having trouble setting up the strut covers, and was hoping someone could help with pictures, or suggestions on how to have the covers work.
Thank you so much.

RE: Strut covers for the Lightning
Others have made linkage systems, but I could never getmine to hold up. Oneproblem is that the cover plate and gear mount are at different angles. If thestrut door is hinged to the cover plate,as the gear cyclesthe linkagecan twist the door or allow the airload to twist the door.Thelinkageon mine kept bending allowing the door to catch airand bend the linkage even more.I tried various fixes and geometry changes but never got it to my satisfaction. Mysolutions wereto mount the doors to the strut or retract trunion like BVM does. Due to some other gear issues I simplified things byswapping to DreamworksHercules retracts, eliminatedthe main doors, madenew coverplates &strut doors. Itapped my struts and bolted thedoors to them. If you are using Dreamworks struts you may be able to tap them also or findstrut collars that you can attach the door with.

Here are somelinkagesystemsothershave made. I cannot really comment on how these haveheld up after numerous flights. HoweverI do see Lightnings flying without the strut doors, so to me there's still anissue with some linkage systems. What I can say is that after bolting mine to the struts I've had absolutley no issues.

RE: Strut covers for the Lightning
Thank you Scott.
Nice to see the pictures, and hear your summary. Probably what i will do. Bolt the covers to the strut, do without the hinge. Go fly.
Thank you
