Painted this 202 cockpit with that stuff called "Make it Stone" I got the idea from seeing it at the Dayton fly-in. Also a buddy of mine said he had seen it done and I should have put some cardboard flames down then painted it and it would have had an embossed look. Too late for that now.

That's the same thing I use. But mine is called "Fleck Stone". It looks great, and is available at Wally World. For smaller planes, I use black Sandpaper.

For me, I take black felt, cut it to size, then glue it in. With a tinted canopy and pilot it works pretty well.

about how thick of felt? My wife has some pieces I could use, she just doesnt realize thats what she's got em for

Also FWIW, be sure to use a primer as the base coat that is similar in color as the stone paint and you wont have to use as much to cover the area. As you can see mine was grey in color so flat gray spray paint was the natural choice for me. But heck, the directions will tell you that also.

As far as the thickness of the felt, it is pretty thin. It is plyable and cuts easy with scissors. Mine was approrpiated from my wife too. She doesn't seem to miss it though. I usually use elmer's wood glue and put in several places on the underneath side. Just needs to keep from sliding. With a canopy in place, it won't move very much anyway. I'll bet mine is barely 1/16" thick.

Keith: Just save your pictures somewhere on your HD, mine are in my documents. When you go to post them just click on the box with browse and go to where you put them and click on them, done, they are posted.

The stone finish is pretty neat! If you want a cheap, quick finish for simple sport planes, hit the cockpit floor with black shoe dye. Flat black, light weight, works ok. I use grey Rustoleum primer usually on my better planes, but may have to try the stone finish!
