Favorite 1/4 Aerobatic kit?
I am going to order my first giant scale kit soon and was wondering what everyone thinks is there favorite kit. I want the plane to be about 80" wingspan and to easily accept a BME 44/50. It does not need to have plug in wings but that would be nice. I am considering the Aeroworks Edge or the Carden Extra. My problem is that I don't know how to do foam wings but I guess I can learn. The Midwest Cap has caught my eye too. I want it to be a CAP, Extra, or Edge. I just finished an Ultimate and don't feel like doing 2 wings again so soon! I want it to be able to hover with the above engines but it is not necessary to have it grossly overpowered.
Thanks in advance, Phil (Mesa, AZ)

EJB, I purchased the graphics for a 33% A/W Edge right from Aeroworks. The set for the 29-35% kits cost $79 bucks. I only used the graphics for the side of the fuse and still have the large ones for on the wings. I can can sell them to you if you want ($40 -- freight included). Let me know if you're interested.

Wing sheeting
Phil, I just finished up my first "sheeted wing" plane. I was concerned about it as well. It really wasn't that bad. In my manual, Aeroworks tells you how to make an "edge truing sanding jig". Takes 20 minutes and about $30 bucks to build. You still need to true edge the sheets with an exacto or similar but the sanding jig just makes them more perfect. Also the quality of the wood in the A/W kit was great. I bet I only had to true edge cut only half the sheets. The rest I just sanded up with the jig. There are a couple other tricks I learned to making the sheeting that could share with you if needed.
Thanks.......Mark

Graphics ?????
EJB,
Thanks for the compliment.
I`m not sure where the graphics come from on this.
I got this plane in a trade last year and it was almost to go.
I put my radio in it and a Don Harris smoke system and have a ball with it everytime I take it out.
It has a BME 44 and it will pull it straight up to I make it stop!
Thumbs up for the Edge 540all the way around!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have owned BME engines and I DO LIKE them, but I think you will be better served with the TAURUS 52. A 60cc engine is just a tad too heavy and the best all around 50 is the TAURUS52.

A question about the AW Edge
Do all of the 29% Edges from aeroworks come with the airfoiled tail? I see on there site that it is listed as "optional airfoiled tail". This is probably the kit I am going to get. Everyone seems to love this plane. Although it is not my first pic as far as looks go I believe that it will be one of the best flying. I am planning on getting it in about a month or so, I have to finish my extra first! I only allow myself 1 kit at a time or I will get nothing done.

Yes,
The 29% does have an airfoil tail.
I plan to get an Edge when I get the money and chance. I like the look and I have heard nothing but good things about them.

First off...what is the plane going to be used for? Fun flying, IMAC, freestyle??? If you are looking for a weekend fun fly, or a freestyle plane I would agree on the 29% AW Edge, but for IMAC sequence flying take a look at the Carden 26% Extra300S.

Geistware,
Carden has a 26%, 30% and a 35% Extra300S. I have built and flown 2 of the 26% and 1 of the 35%. They build exactly the same. The 26% is a great flying IMAC plane for it's size. I powered one with a Brison 2.4 and the other with a BME 2.7. One had Futaba 9202's and a JR 4721 and the other had Multiplex Royal's and a JR8411. Both combonations worked equally well.
Hope this helps,
Bryan

Carden Instuctions
I was wondering if anyone can make a comparison between Aeroworks and Carden's instructions. I am a competent builder but I wouldn't call myself a master. I like having a good set of instructions/plans to guide my through the construction process. Does either of these companies have the advantage in terms of there instructions?
Thanks again, Phil (Mesa, AZ)

Instructions
I have built two AW kits and a Carden. The AW instructions were more detailed and the AW kits have a wing plan and the Carden does not. Even so, they are both simple to build if you have built a few kits before. You have to have a large, flat, true building surface. Both companies have outstanding customer service and I bugged them quite a bit and they were only too glad to help. The Carden kits are quite a bit sturdier if you plan on a lot of harrier landings, etc.
Good Luck, you cant go wrong either way
