Default Comp Arf Extra 2.3 and Evo 58

I'm putting together a Comp Arf 2.3m Extra and want to put an Evlution 58 in it. Anyone know what cannister muffler will fit in this plane with the Evo 58? The one you can buy from Horizon I'm told will not fit under the wing tube. Anyone help me???

Do yourself a favor and get the MVVS 58 instead. The Evolution is junk.

http://www.macspro.com/prodline.asp <-----------Can make you what you want
http://www.aircraftinternational.com/ Huge inventory of mufflers.
http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/Mufflers.htm Good selection of mufflers.

Measure how much room you have.

I could never get mine to run right and I had to send it to Horizon after both weekends that I got my plane out. Horizon's service sucks and you can't talk to the person who's working on your engine, just someone that answers the phone. I've read a lot of threads where people are also unhappy with the Evolution, but the MVVS seems to work fine. Plus you can talk to Dave Moen or someone else that's working on it. The difference may be in the ignition, but I'm not sure. The Evolution now has a way to hook up a servo for an automatic choking feature, but people are unhappy with it. I bought a 3W after my experience with an Evolution and if I ever want a 58cc engine, it's going to be a BME or an MVVS. I'll probably never buy an Evolution again.

i have to disagree with you aswell ben and agree with octane_huffer, as from what ive read and seen with these motors, evolution and mvvs are pretty well exact copies of each other, and i dont have any clue about your experience with gas engines etc, but the quote " i could never get mine to run right", resembles the good old saying, perhaps its not the engine, maybe its the operator?

hehe, im sure this'll start a bit of fun

and sorry theshirt im not sure about the muffler but i do know for its size, the motor has awesome power.
hopefully you have luck finding a muffler that fits

TheShirt:

I have had three 2.3's. Have had one with a DA-50 w/tuned pipe, 3-W75, ZDZ80 & 3W105. The 75cc range flew the best. DA-50 with pipe was OK but absolutely no pull out of hover. Unless the 58 has considerably more power than the DA-50, you might consider a little larger engine. It is hard to keep this bird under 18lbs. Just for your info........

Good Luck

I am flying this aircraft with a MVVS 58 and 94V-4 KS canister. My 58 turns a CF 24x10 Engel Super Silence at 6800. Plenty of power. I am very happy with this combo.

I atach some pics of the installation of the canister. Is the only one of this type that fits in the Extra.
