Default B29 flies

Well it is time to boast and brag. My Don Smith scratch built 1/12 th scale B29 has finally flown. After 2+ yrs of building and engineering by the likes of Dan Walz, Dave Wise , Jim Simonitch just to name a few. It has gone from being a dream, a money sucker, a coffee table and a dog house to being a fine example of a true flying machine. I did nt take the honors of the first flight of course. That was left up to Fred Wilke. Pictures and possibly video to follow soon.

We flew again today. It was truely a miserable day but it was the Labor Day airshow and it was for a good cause. We had a little damage on this flight on landing....retractable scale tail skid, but it is still flyable. we are still learning this plane. Check out the nose high attitude on landing and you can probably see that the inboard engine#3 is not running.

Bring that beauty down to Bomber Field for the B-17 fly-in. There will be a couple of other B-29s there as well as a bunch of B-17s

we thought we had missed that event. We will take a look at mileage and of course gas and see if it is feasible. That is one of the events I have on my list of must do things......

This is the inspiration I've been looking for. I've always wanted to build a DS B-29 but didnt have any local field to fly at that had low pucker power, so its been tabled for a long time. That issue has been solved now. We lost our field a couple of months ago and managed to find another field that I call our field of dreams. We got 5 acres in the middle of 100 acres that is land locked by a few thousand acres of farm land. We've been working hot and heavy (litterally, its August) and should be ready for flight action in about a month. Will have a 600'x60' petromat runway. You can see our progress at www.gamarc.org under new field. I'm the one with the acy. torch. One of the biggest things to help was a member that is a general manager for a heavy equipment rental company. He donated, for fuel only charge, a vibrating roller and a grader. The president knew a guy that is a grader operator that is donating his time. We have been smiled upon BIG TIME.
I just happen to have 4 saito 1.20s that can be dedicated to this project. Video got to see video.

SBD, I can try but I will have my buddy Dan come on with all the real info. I can givw you some basics. 19 servoes, brakes that were home made. 4x10oz tanks with 2oz hoppers for each. 4xos91 four strokes on glow, retractable tail skid, flaps and the list goes on. He will be on shortly to fill in the big blanks. He will post some up close pics of thedetails also
