Default What airplane is this?

Hello, I really like the looks of this plane, and size I guess, judging by the stuff next to it.. Can anybody give me any info on it? Manufacturers, engines, links, pics?

Thanks..

Aero Comander.. But doesn't look big enough to be a Modaire..
However, does look like about the size of a Bridi model...

Default Islander

I think it's a Britten Norman Islander and not an Aerocommander

No, it's an Aerocommander for sure. May be a Birdi, but I think Top Flite put one out years ago as well about that size.

Default Not an Aerocommander

Not an Aerocommander - Definitely an Islander. :devious:

Boxy sides and hershey bar wing give it away, although I see the confusion with the simiar nose shapes.

Here's an Islander:

Default Islander Sources

It is most definately a Britten Norman Islander.

I believe RCM has plans for one, and Bob Francis Models does a 1/5 scale one for a pair of G-23's. It can be seen at: http://got,net/~francis/

And I stand corrected.. As JohnG says, the "hershey bar wing "..
When I looked at 1AM I didn't notice the landing gear but I did
notice the 'boxy' look and the squarish vertical thinking it was
just a stand off type scale..
Looking today, the wing and nacelles show different.. They look
more of the Islander than the A-C ...
My apology for misinformation, Mopzillia and everyone..

Default Trilander

There was also a Britton Norman trilander that had a streached Islander fuselage with a third tractor engine on top of the vertical stab and still had the fixed gear. This one would make a really unique project.

I fly a Quad Islander, I love multis and sticking two more engines made a lot of sense, I have extended vortex wingtips. just like the real one, 96 " wingspan, 4/25 s fly it well, it is a joy to fly, Mike

Default Islander

Here is my Islander that I've been flying seven years. 114" span, 80" length, two G-23's, and 31 lbs.

Default Quad

Hi Robby, one of the reason I built this bird.( Its my own design) was because it is a very simple plane, I love multis and I wanted something very stable, easy to build , the Twin Islander fitted my ideas except that only had the two engines If you want I can E you some of the buiding ideas I used, It is so stable that it will fly easy on two engines Mike

Default Islander

Robby,

Islander doesn't have retracts. My Islander is my own design. It has flaps, nav lights, landing lights, and onboard kill switches in addition to the normal controls. I use Airtronics with a 510 giant servo on rudder, a 161 giant on elevator, and everything else has standard ball bearing servos with one on each aileron and one on each flap. Each G-23 has a 14 oz. tank and I usually only refuel every other flight. It has a three piece wing. The outboard panels plug in just outside the nacelles with 6061T6 aluminum joiners in the spars fore and aft. The landing lights come on any time the lights are on and I have more than 10 degrees of flaps. I use them to set up take-off position by dropping them till the lights come on and then back the knob up just till the lights go out. I've only had one engine out in 149 flights and it flew fine on one engine.

Default What airplane is this?

Heyy Jerry,
Love in-flight pics..
So, questions..
I usually only refuel every other flight.
So how long does a flight last, and where is throttle set for most of flight....?
Also,,
outboard panels plug in just outside the nacelles with 6061T6 aluminum joiners in the spars fore and aft
You have two tubes per panel.. What diameter are the tubes and are they going into foam or build-up ...?

And, finally,, how did a gas motor quit running...?
Thank you.

Robby

Default Answer Questions

Robby,

To answer your questions:
1. I usually fly about ten minutes and about half throttle most of the time. It will loop at half throttle.
2. The wing joiners are 1/8" X 3/4" aluminum that plug into built up spars that are hollow. The spars are 1/8" X 1 1/4" ply on both sides of 1/8" X 1/4" spruce top and bottom.
3. The left engine quit at the top of a loop when the wire from the coil to the points broke off the coil. I have heat shrink tubing on the connections now for stress relief.

Jerry
