Default hey guys I got a crazy idea involving cheap DC motors and plywood

hehe i want to make a cheapo electric to fool around with before I get a REAL car

It'll be non-proportional, so I'll just commandeer the tx, reciever + 3-step msc package from cheap toy cars\

i will take ply for the crappy chassis I won't put shocks on, will my car fall apart?

Now here's the biggie: how can I steer this vehicle? with no real R/C car to see, I have no clue how to work the steering. I mean, what's the schematics? What motor should I use to put on steering?

PS for wheels I'm using soda cans with axles glued on like this:
/ _ _ \
| O X O |
\_____/

I'll be using 5 min epoxy

In order for soda cans to attain traction I'll use RC56 to make an x pattern for pavement I hope they don't wear out too quickly

and if possible and attainable, I wanna make it 4wd with a belt drive

or not

THANX!

My goals probably can't be attained without lots of work, but if it seems doable, I'll do it and try to post it online if I can get a digi-camera into my hands!

Borrow most of the components from the car u take the Tx from, such as steering, and just bolt it on to ply wood

good idea, I'll just get two higher powered motors for driving and gear them together for more speed than torque because I have two motors already.

Heres the problem tho, I can't get a way to make the homemade tires mount onto the axles that came with the bash-car.

Hehe, when it's done I hope it looks like a Monster Truck, well, kinda

it all depends on how the motors are wired that gives you more torgue or speed(series or parallel) the faster one warrants more stress on esc and lower run times and the torque one is a little more forgiving with longer run times

unless your some electronics genius you wont be able to use just a motor for the steering, its called a servo. why dont you just buy a real rc car, its alot easier. i doubt you will be able to make a car espically if you have no expirence with rc cars. if you do though i would like to see a pic of your red neck little car. and how are you planning on makeing the drive train(tranny and drive shafts)?

That's crazy, I could build one with $20. I've done it before. Although I have motors and stuff lying all over my room, but still. Steering isn't that hard to work with just dc motors, you just have to set up a ghetto rack and pinion system. It'll be hard to control, and handle like dog poo, but it's homemade, there's no helping that. If you're using two motors, put them in parallel. I've read of a couple people doing that with micro rs4's, and it turned out great. Actually, nitrofreak is right, a three wheeler would be alot simpler to work everything with. Just run each of the rear wheels off of a motor and use them to steer. A caster or something could work as a front wheel.

DO NOT BUY A DASH!! i had to face that one. why dont you save those 20$ and put them towards a new rc car. get a delphi then you can do the servos in that itll only cost you about 100$ in kit form with the radio.

dont use soda can it wont travel off road and if you try anything over 5mph and you hit a stone u'll have to mount some new ones to ur axle just get some really dirt cheap tyres or simply buy a car for about $35 for a tamiya ta02 and use the radio from one of your planes

Listen man, you can get an old kyosho outrage here in RCUniverse for around 75 bucks or you could save 200 bucks up and buy a little Evader or something. If you are into planes then you MUST have some money... Planes aren't cheap (I know this becasue i used to have 9 planes before they were stolen... Now i only have 2 planes and 2 kits left...)!

Just go buy a good car! THEN you can try to build your own on road or something... It would be fun to build a small 2WD Touring car to race against mini-z's and stuff... Use an airtronics Blazer sport ($40) and a little Duratrax ESC ($25) and 6 Nicad Double-a's... Heck, you could use an airplane RX pack!

A plywood car with beer can wheels? Come on, obviously that would be worthless. I think he's waiting for someone to call B******t.

This is interesting - Let's take beer cans and turn them into the chassis for a R/C.

u know what?

i'm gonna give up on this idea....
now as I read more posts(in the car forum)

I believe taht what i want this thing to do is gonna be unattainable...[]

my original plan was for an MT or ST truck that would go fast and be offroadable.....

o well....

Next math competition will be in June, $$$ will come in October... Time to wait!!!! (Good thing i think i am patient, if i wasn't i woulda freaked by then, I waited 3 yrs to get my plane!)

Haha

Snyperx, how do those Phoenix planes of yours perform? Are they OK for a third plane? I like the looks of the Sukhoi (I've only built one ARF and 0 kits and 0 RTF's)

Do they require lots of touching up?

PS Dammit this year I won't be able to get any money for cars cuz I will miss the math competition, BUT I'm going to Beijing China where they might have some cheap Chinese cars,

Looking to pick up in China a Hitec Aggressor CRX and a Thunder Tiger EB4 S3 or S2 Pro or GS Avenger storm or if the price is right and they carry it a Kyosho K3 or Mugen mbx5. I'll get a Novarossi p5 or their new engine when I get back to the US of A.

But I hope they have hobby shops in Beijing! if they don't I won't get a car for AT LEAST another year.

Sorry about my bad spelling, I just am too lazy... No wonder why I always fail English (not really, for my regular classes I get A's and A+'s but in English I only get A's and A-'s.)

NOTE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO GET BRACES: THEY HURT LIKE uum ****! They give you brain damage and prevent you from doing your math homework
