G45 - Horizon Carb Rotator
Sorry to pepper the board with yet another question, but you guys are batting 1000 so far.
Got my Horizon Zenoah g45 carb rotator in the mail today. Seems to install easily enough despite the total lack of instructions, but as usual I got stuck on one step:
This one DOES come with a hole for the vacuum nipple as well as the nipple itself, but of course the nipple doesn't fit the hole. The nipple is threaded, the hole is not, and trying to thread it in only resulted in the mount material wearing away.
Can I use a tap on this stuff? I heard it's kind of brittle...
Thanks!
Dominic

If they sent you the right one it has a fitting it in, to be connected the the fitting in the rear half of the crankcase..Send me your address, I'll send you one that works...

RE: G45 - Horizon Carb Rotator
RCIGN1,
I have just installed the Horizon carb rotator on my G-45...It came with the nipple installed......From your comment " I'll send you one that works". Is there something inherently unworkable about this part.....It appeared to mount and seat properly.. If it will develop into a problem later, I want to correct it before it goes on the plane..... thanks

I was mostly referring to the hole not being tapped, but I have some of the Horizon rotators that were made from phenolic and will eventually crack and leak...

RE: G45 - Horizon Carb Rotator
Ralph,
The block I'm referring to, is a rather orange colored hard plastic looking affair, it did have the fitting installed and rotated the carb to the correct position....
I'm nearly ready to install the engine, and if there is any possibility this part will cause trouble in the future, I want to correct it now. If you have access to a more reliable part, I would be most interested in obtaining one....

I haven't seen a black one for the G45, maybe they didn't do that one....Go easy on the wrench when you tighten the carb, sometimes the brass inserts twist in the block....

RE: G45 - Horizon Carb Rotator
The G45 rotator I got from Horizon is black, but the inability to tap the block for the threaded nipple was an exercise in frustration. I have no desire to risk an expensive airframe on this sub-par quality part. Very disappointed.

The phenolic adaptor seemed to fit and seal up well enough...I guess I'll go with it and keep a sharp eye... good advice on tightening bolts...when it's tight, it's tight...the next two steps are stretch... and strip....

If the block is otherwise OK, plug up the bad hole with JB weld...Look on the cast carb cover...You will see a small boss that can be drilled for a fitting..Drill a #23 hole in the cover, press a Walbro 128-218 or equivalent fitting in the hole, connect to the fitting in the case...Been doing it for 20 years on HDA carbs, works great....
bennettbuilt.com has fittings, or get one from a discarded weedeater carb...

RE: G45 - Horizon Carb Rotator
Horizon is crediting my account with the cost of the carb adapter - I'm not even sending it back.
Ralph, I mailed you a check today for "one that works"... Thanks!
