Default Just Starting a Mono 48" Build

I have just started a build on the Mono 48" I have only built one boat about 20 years ago, It was a Dumas
Deep V40 a kit boat. So far I have made the building board and cut all thr part and dry fit them all. It will
take me some time on this build, I do not have alot of time to work at it and I do not have none of the hardware yet. I have takin some pic's of what I have done so far. I hope I can get them uploaded with this post.

Nice build pics, if the rest of the build is going to be as clean and tidy as this then we will have a new "standard build" thread to refer to

Hi Mate My work shop is my two car garage, That is the only clear spot that I could find The hole garage is full of junk I can barley get one car in there. I had to get right in with the camera so it would not pick up all the junk lol. Thank you for your comments on the build.

Hi Ian
Thank you for the comments on the pic’s I have not been doing any building for about 6 years now. I built one kit boat at lest 20 years ago and I have built 4 planes over the years. My work shop if you can call it that is nothing but every one else’s junk, I have no wall space at all. The building board was sitting on two concrete blocks.
Ian are you a Ham OM?

[sm=confused.gif]If I knew what that was I could answer you[sm=confused.gif] Ahah, found it, no, nothing to do with Ham, your screen name opens up a lot of info.......[X(]

This is a Mk1, Mk2 has straight through stringers (just checked, Mk 1 from the plans I adjusted have that option as well). Mk2 has gone to a couple of Swedish guys who were keen to build, I have yet to see any posts (Sweden or here) so I guess they haven't started yet.

what were the reasons and benefits of the 2nd version?
From what I can see in the plans its narrower!?

it's narrower and there are changes to the bottom to try to get it to stay on the water better at high speed. If you're using a heavier, lower power motor like a Homlite or such the original may be the better boat for you.

I got a bit more done on my build, I bolted the bulk heads together and sanded them all the same size, And epoxy the stringers and bulk head together on the building board. It has been awhile cines I have done any building, like a big dummy I for got to put some wax paper under it all, if you look close at the close up pic you will see that I am going to have a bit of a problem later on. I seen some pic’s of a build of this hull on here some where, when he epoxy the bottom sheeting together he did not epoxy them to the stringers and bulk head at that time. Not sure how it was, I was wondering if that was a better way of doing the bottom sheeting. I will have more ? later I’m sure.

I do my bottom that way. Probably my pics you saw. I like to just glue the bottom halves together along the keel first. After that's dry I glue the whole bottom to the framework as one unit. Just an easier way to do it for me. Doug

Thanks Doug for your reply. Yes they are the pics that I was referring to. I am going to see how that works for me. The sheets sure wont be sliding apart when gluing them to the bulk heads and stringer. Harold

I just tacked the sheets to the transom with small pins and glued it up as i went ,a few pins in each frame held it all then i removed the pins afterwards, make sure not to knock them all the way in .it also a good idea to only glue the sheets upto where the hull starts to bend if you think its going to be hard to bend them, that way things can set before you start bending and nothing can then pull apart.be sure to bevel the edges where they meet at the keel makes for a better joint.

Thank you martno1fan for the good tips on putting the sheets together, that is the way it will be done. I just got a new volunteer to help with the build. LOL Harold

Deal with it before you get the bottom sheets on is my advice.... get a razor blade in there and cut it free whilst you have good access
