Yes there's no grease needed for the gears. I have mine for a while now with no issues. Did you stripped the gears?

Yea it stripped 1st, 2 and 3 in behind the spur gear there is just nothing left 3rd on the next shaft is missing a few teeth and it broke the pin that holds the clutch on 2nd it has fairly wrecked itself!

I would contact HPI right away. They will replaced it 100%. They have great customer service and your truck is still under warranty.

The XL tranny should be dry.
I got 6+ gallons on mine with no problems other than having to clean up the 3rd gear pawl a couple times.

Usually the disaster starts with the final drive gear. It breaks and the parts wipe out the rest. The 3 speed is not nearly as robust as the newer two speeds, but it should hold your 5.9 for several gallons....like around 7 or 8 normally. Glen

Yea my gearbox looks like that lol but the final drive was the only row of gears that wasnt missing teeth, priced up sorting it all the bits are costing less than £30 gb inc delivery which i thought wasnt bad at all i was expecting a lot more. But gears with no lube i have never seen that before

It operates on a one way bearing, allowing the chassis to coast. If you lube it, then you run into one way bearing problems. Glen
